I've been wanting to get some games from the original Xbox running on the 360 XDK, and I'm a bit lost. I understand that it's possible but may not be worth it, but the ultimate goal is just having the 360 handle the content so I don't have to setup the original Xbox each time. So in summary -What is needed to make backwards compatibility work? -Is there a specific way to do this for XDKs (I have a sidecar and I know Im not taking that apart again)? -What limitations are there? -Would patching be required for the XBE files?
There are hacked compatibility files out there. Use those. But be warned, it really doesnt work well.
Yeah. Some titles will run, many wont, and many of those that do wont run well. The 360 just isnt a replacement for the original box.
Yeah the backward comp files won't really play anything beside what was released retail. Beras, prototypes and homebrew will not run on an xdk 360. It'll either crash the kit or kick back to the retail home screen. But mostly crash. For retail xbe, no patching required.
@XboxSurgeon Im just not sure where to put the compatibility files on the XDK I have. I keep reading a "Y" drive but no drive exists on mine. Any suggestions? The HDD is in the sidecar and I'm not wanting to take it apart for this.
Nah, just use xex menu and drop the compatibility folder into HDDX. Delete any folder inside HDDX prior to dropping the new one inside. Reset xdk and bam, all retail xbe either raw builds or even retail discs will run now. The Y drive is not showing in your Xbox Neighborhood because it won't natively. Google something called internal linker.xex. After you run this program that appears to do nothing, reset your xdk and close XN. Restart kit and XN and it'll now show all your drives, including Y.
No problem. I have internal drive linker I can share with you if you can't find it. I'm at work right now but I can upload in the morning.
I managed to get it working with the HDDX method, but I would still appreciate it as I like not touching FSD and want full access to the drive partitions. Thanks in general man!
G'mornin' Here is the link for Internal Drive Linker for all who need it: https://mega.nz/#!E8JmRapS!1zDPjgLKLGiAHmROS5AlRdl9U76d4bpmK_CJ8_8NkyI
I decided to give Halo a shot at booting (the only xbox game I have) and wow it took literally no load time. I loaded up Halo 2 after I located a copy and it was a tad slower loading but still amazing speed (and in widescreen which is a plus). I gave the Revolt Xbox Alpha a shot, it froze, some other builds as well but all froze so I do wee what you meant about it being spotty. Would it be worth trying the Halo CE debug XBE or is that one that would fail to load?
Sometimes they work, sometimes not. Like the trained Halo CE xbe will run but you can't access the trainer for it. 99.9% of the xbe that are modified will run but some of the content doesn't show up.
