I've searched around to see if this had been discussed previously, but I don't think this has been asked before. I have a PAL Sega Saturn that I want to output 60Hz as opposed to 50Hz, however as I only own NTSC-JP games I don't need the Saturn to have the option of outputting 50Hz, and thus don't require a switch.

How different would this version of the mod be to permanently alter my PAL Saturn to output 60Hz? Thanks!

Just lift the pin from the board and hardwire it to +5V - all the switch does is change the voltage on that pin; 0V = 50Hz mode, +5V = 60Hz mode.

Not permanently, you can just dremel the edge of the chip and expose the leg.

Obviously not ideal nor for the unskilled (or of shaky hand!), but not permanent.

I figured that if he was talking about that mod then he was confident of his ability to disconnect that lead, and it's not like that chip has an especially fine lead pitch. It's also got the big advantage that it's consistent across every version of the Saturn. Personally, I would rather remove jumpers or cut tracks, but in that case you need to know which revision board you have - and I have a memory that at least one of the PAL versions had a extra trace tying the PAL/NTSC line to ground in addition to the jumper (presumably added by accident, but not detected because that line was already grounded).

I was talking about the dremelling part not being ideal or for the unskilled

That's certainly true - I've seen quite a few Wiis that people had attempted to use a dremel on - and the results were generally not pretty.
