After receiving yet another cart with a package I bought, I thought it's nice to have an overview of all available carts & their functions in this topic. Here's an overview of the carts I have at the moment. 1.Action replay. Bios version 1.92. Used for imports & save storage (NOT direct) NO Comms port. 1mb/4mb? 4MB doesn't work (at least not without mod) 2.Sega Satellite. Used for imports only. A LOT better than the piece of crap below. Works 99%. 3.Action replay v? (dodgy cart won't boot 99 out of 100 times, cant check now) Has COMMS port, used for imports & save storage (NOT direct) No 1MB/4MB compat. 4.Official SEGA memory card PAL version. Direct saving. 5.Official SEGA memory card JAP version. Direct saving. Please adds pics of more carts + info.
Pro Universal Adapter by Datel. Simple import adapter cart that allows booting of (guess what?) import disks. Plug it into the Saturn, turn it on, the system will go to the CD player after showing the carts copyright/info screen. Select Start Application and your import will boot. I don't know about the compatiblity as I only have one Japanese game (Rockman X3) but that one works perfectly. I also don't have a pic at the moment but it looks just like Segafreak_NL's AR, only with "Universal Adapter" instead of "Action Replay" on the front...
I have a newer Action Replay at the house. I'll take a picture of it tonight (I won't be taking it out of the Saturn, though, as I'm paranoid ). Edit: You can see it fairly clearly in my "Room of Doom" thread. It's the last picture down.
I have a Saturn cart that looks just like No.1. I can't get it to boot Metal Slug at all. From what I remember, I got the initial loading screen then it goes black and refuses to load. This is when the Saturn is switched in Jpn/US/UK modes and using the cart. What is this mod for the cart you speak of please?
Does anybody have a "Boom!" 5-in-1 "34M" RAM card? If not I'll provide board pics + box/label. I discarded the case to it but it looks just like #1 with a label.
Most of the Action replay 4 in 1's had to be modded to work with 4MB games like Dungeons & Dragons etc.
Yeah, I have a Boom! Ive never tried it with a 4mb game, runs all my imports so far, has Action Replay features.
Works fairly well with 4Mb games, sometimes you must restart the game a few times before games play correctly, especially in SFZ3's case.
Cool, im recieving X-Men vs Streetfighter this week, hope it works ok. Unless i'm going mad, i remember when i got it i was convinced it had some limited memory feature, like maybe it only saves a short time........while the system is on so you can transfer to main memory?? Maybe i am deluded heh. Did they bootleg the Action Reply features for this?
It's held a few saves for me for over 3 years so I wouldn't call mine unreliable. I'm sure they bootlegged the AR, just like EMS and everyone else.
I have loads of saturn carts. I'll post pictures later when I get home. Must have about 10 or so. Yakumo
Standard PAR 4-in-1. COMMS port included, and it was apparently the earlier model of 4-in-1, as my Vampire Savior would not boot because it couldn't detect a 4MB cart. One simple 1-wire mod trick later and it works perfectly. No direct saving bites, but the backup memory on the card seems to be nothing but reliable, as I haven't lost a save yet.
Here are the saturn carts that I have. I've made them in to 3 groups. GROUP 1 = Memory cartridges 1 - Official Japanese memory cart 2 - Official PAL memory cart 3 - Official Japanese memory cart from Bandai's Tamagotchi game. (Just the same as a standard cart but in pink) 4 - Un-official memory cart with switch. It's unknown what the switch does. The actual memory for saves is the same as a standard cart. It's possible that it has two memory banks which would explain the switch but since the switch brings up a "No Cartridge" screen when flicked up I'm taking it that the 2nd memory bank is dead. GROUP 2 - RAM/ROM Cartridges 1 - Ultraman ROM cartridge. This has all the character animations pre-programmed on to the cartridge. 2 - The King Of Fighters '95 Japanese ROM cartridge. Works just the same way as the Ultraman cart. 3 - Official Japanese 4 MBIT RAM Cartridge 4 - Official Japanese 1 MBIT RAM Cartridges. I have about 7 of these things. GROUP 3 - The others 1 - Japanese Pro Action Replay 2 with com port (Last version to be released.) 2 - Pro Universal Adaptor by Datel (UK Version) This plays any Saturn game on any Saturn. I use it to play my PAL games on my Japanese systems. Anyone notice that the cart is the same shape as the western Master System carts 3 - Magic Card V2 - Used to play CDR or import games on any Sega made Saturn (Won't run on a V-Saturn or Hi-Saturn) I have a few other memory cards with stickers on them from Tokimeki Memorial and Sonic R but they're just normal white official Japanese Sega carts. It's quite funny that the only carts that work first time, every time in my Saturn are the Pro Action Replay 2 and Magic Card V2. Strange that the official carts are right bastards to get working while the un-official ones work fine Yakumo
yea I've been thinking of putting up but all my stuff are spread out in 4-5 boxes at the moment and taking them all out and taking photo is not easy when you have 15 months old running around picking and throwing things around... gimme few days and I will see what I can do... in the mean time have a look at my bin directory for anything you think useful here... and there's x-terminator cart in my collection page and plus RAM buffer cart in my CartDev Rev.B saturn...
Yup, I was thinking about CartDev and Psy-Q myself OK, from DJ898's collection, we have: A fetching memory card A Japanese modem The US Net Link pack A boxed Japanese memory card HSS-0111 A boxed Japanese memory card HSS-0138 A Japanese 10X memory card A word processor printer interface (and keyboard??? does this fit in the cart slot?) A CartDev Rev. B interface cart sh3-rg has a Psy-Q, here's a pic of the cart (if you object to me hotlinking, just say )
sh3-rg also had this pic, which I edited to show some Japanese? RAM carts and an Action Replay 4M Plus Now on to the good stuff!!!! Sega diagnostic cart with diagnostic CD Board that came with QA Saturn - what does it do??
Great News! My BOOM! cart doesnt work with Xmen vs Streetfighter bah Flits between the Capcom logo & the intro, if you press start it does a black screen crash. Can I say bah again. This FAQ on expansion carts http://faqs.ign.com/articles/428/428995p1.html claims there are problems in 50hz, which i'm running.
