Anyone have a list of the Saturn games that require the extra RAM carts? I am buying some games and I want to make sure I don't get one that needs the RAM becuase I can't find a cart for a reasonable price.

just get ARP4-1 cart as it will take care of 1MB/4MB RAM side of thing plus being the import cart and action reply and backup memory carts

if you are after genuine 4MB RMA cart, that thing isn't easy to find nor cheap...

cheers

you can get ARP4-1 from EMS directly although it's not cheap.
or you can search on Google for EMS+ARP...
even tough it may cost a bit I'd recommend to get it from those online sellers so you can get it replaced if yours turns out to be DOA.

when lik-sang had it on stock I had mine replaced twice by them under RMA.

cheers

make sure that one is 1MB & 4MB compatible.
there are some old ARP4-1 that isn't although it's not too hard to mod - but when you paid for new one you want it to be perfect :p

Here are a list of games that use the RAM carts, note some games will need the RAM carts and some will work without them. 1 Meg games will generally only work with the 1MB cart and vice versa. Both will use the extra RAM if it is present. :)

Note that some of these games are hentai.

theres a slight error in the above list. All 1 Meg RAM cart games will work with the 4 Meg cartridge as well as the 1 Meg cartridge. Also Cyberbots uses no cart or 1 or 3 Meg modes. So that game plays anyway. My answer is just buy the 4MEG RAM cartridge. It will play EVERYTHING apart from dedicated ROM games such as KOF '95 and Ultraman. I know this is true because I own many of the above games and run them using only the 4 Meg RAM cartridge on a Japanese Saturn.

12. Jandaman is a quality site, I've ordered several things from there (including a 4-in-1) and have not had a single problem. It's one of the cheapest solutions if you live in the states.

Beware though, as the 4-in-1 cart I got there did have the bug where it wouldn't switch to the 4MB memory bank. Thankfully, there is a really nice guide put out by NCSX floating around somewhere online, and it's a ridiculously easy operation - I didn't even screw it up, and that's saying a lot considering my soldering skills. One wire and you're good to go, although if reports are to be believed, Jandaman is now importing the carts that have this bug fixed.

jandaman is very reliable, i my self have boughten things from them (such as the 4 in 1 cart) and theyre shipping is fast, you should be ok, the one that they sent me had no problems booting later ram games (such as marvel vs. street fighter).

Probably shouldn't write things first thing in the morning... >_<

Anyway...

Most of the 1Meg games with work with a 4Meg cartridge but I am sure there are problems with a few games like King of Fighters 96, Metal Slug, Samurai Spirits III and Real Bout Fatal Fury.

Some of the games will work without the RAM cartridges, can't check which ones at the moment.

The list shows if the games will *use* the RAM cartridge, for example Pocket Fighter if I remember will use the 4Meg RAM Cart if present and if there is none it'll also run, however if the 1Meg Cart is used then it'll ignore it and run as if it wasn't there. 1 Meg games will only use 1Meg of the cart, 4 Meg games will only use 4Meg of the cart and Both will use any extra RAM if present (like some of the PC Engine games that will run with System 3.0 or Arcade cards).

Hope that makes more sense. :)

As Japanese machines and games with RAM carts are cheap enough there is no reason not to have a Japanese machine, a 1Meg RAM cart and a 4Meg RAM cart.

...and a backup RAM cart while you're at it - saving on the PAR is shit. In fact, I eschew the PAR entirely due to the cartridge connector not looking entirely healthy for my Saturn.

Just get your self an X-men Vs. Street Fighter with cart , their at a resonable price and the cart is an OEM part and the game is great. :smt023

The D&D collection will run without the cart. :)

I got a few imports on ebay and luckily they don't need the cart, becuase I really don't have the $28 for one now. I am getting two Saturns anyway, so I'll just import mod one.

19. Anti - I don't think the PAR cart was designed for direct saving, I've always read that you were supposed to save on the Saturn and then transfer saves to the PAR later - could that be the cause of your problems?
