I have a netbook so it's ridiculously impossible to emulate saturn on it. I needed my elevator action returns fix and found out it was out on taito legends 2.... Any other good saturn releases available as pc ports?
You could've just used MAME to play that, though... Off the top of my head: Daytona USA (CCE was also released as Deluxe), Sega Rally, Virtua Cop 1 & 2, Virtual On, Panzer Dragoon, Sonic R (oh wait, you said GOOD Saturn releases)... Most of these ports aren't too great though, and may be a pain to get running since they're old Windows games.
Last Bronx goes on that list too. So does Virtua Fighter (the first game, with a built-in texture mod that uses the VF2 image files.) Unfortunately, I think those old Expert-label Sega games aggressively check the OS version. Last Bronx in particular won't install if it detects anything newer than NT 4.0.
Sega Touring Cars is better on the PC. I have a problem getting it to play the CD audio though on my PC.
As Kendrick pointed out most of these releases are difficult to get working correctly/at all on newer hardware or operating systems. There may be fan-made patches now, I guess.
You're right, they called the Saturn version of that VF Remix. My recollection is that they didn't use that title for the PC version because there was no other release of VF, so they just called it Virtua Fighter and left it at that. I think the default settings made the game run with the original textures though.
Get Mame. Most of the arcade ports, while good on the Saturn, are better handled on MAME... or at least close enough that you won't notice... that includes F3... and of course the F3 games that didn't get ported. You any good at the game?
Most of the games have been mentioned already.. Bug! Daytona USA Last Bronx Manx TT NBA Action Panzer Dragoon Scud: The Disposable Assassin Sega Rally Championship Sega Touring Car Championship Sonic R Sonic 3D Virtua Fighter Remix Virtual-On Cyber Troopers (JPN only, I think) VF2 Worldwide Soccer
Elevator Action Returns is a favourite at my house. And it runs like a dream on MAME, on pretty much any modern PC from the last 7 years or so. This will certainly alleviate your fix, sir.
I tried it... 7mb file, but it wouldn't work on the version of mame i tried, after i audited the games it didnt show up.... I hate mame so much because of the auditing games bs, not to mention some roms only work on some hacked versions.... :dammit: and they love changed the romsets once in a while :banghead:
I have an old Nvidia NV2 graphics card somewhere which was marketed to play Saturn ported games on PC. It also had special saturn controllers for PC too (not USB) but I never had them. I don't remember off the top of my head which games worked with it though. And rod, PC gaming is NP, it is when you are using emulation where the blame comes in
You're doing it wrong then. Just make sure you get the latest version of Mame and the romset from well known place. Piece of cake.
Indeed. I've never had any problems running Elevator Action Returns on Mame. I played it on my old laptop - Pentium 3 850mhz, 128MB Ram, 20 GB hdd, 16 megabyte video card. That was aeons ago. Get a decent romset, mate.
