My Saturn stopped working awhile ago. I finally got around to taking it apart and found this. https://imgur.com/FnS1VoY Is it damage beyond repair or can it be saved?
I think that's just the glue holding the crystal in place - the bubbly look is a bit strange, but that part is normally glued down with brown glue.
If I had to guess, I would go for the clock synthesizer - the chip marked IC20 with 315-5746 on it in your photo. They run very hot and frequently fail. I don't think it's the part with the glue on it - that's the clock xtal for the SMPC (the chip to the left and slightly below it) - and I can't see that causing video problems.
This what the system does It powers on and the disc spins, But no video no audio or anything. I tried the power cords and AV cables on a different saturn and works fine. I moved the Disc drive and the mod chip to different saturn. And both of them still worked. This is what it was doing before just stopped.
Can you take another angle photo of the hole on your board near the "MADE IN JAPAN" text? The other side too.
Hey there, My Saturn had the same problem. I opened it up and found that same ugly looking glue. That's not the problem. I replaced all the capacitors on the Saturn's main board and everything works perfectly now. I suggest replacing all caps. They frequently fail.
