I guess we should have known it was wishful thinking, but it did get me wondering for a second...heh.

History shows that Sony very slowly strips features away from their hardware

For example the PS1 has a billion ports at first then very slowly had only 1.

PS2 to Slim PS2 lost the Hard Drive bay but gained an either net port.

PS3 loses BC, A few gigs maybe the memory card beys....

    so yeah.........Sucks

considering how sony have given eu the finger up to this point I predict the next SKU will be a PS3 without blu-ray, no USB, only wifi and a 10GB drive for €400 :p

Sony said no way to the $399 PS3 even weeks before the price drop. They're not going to shoot retailers in the foot until it can no longer be denied.

Notice the wording "We have no plans for any pricing announcements on PS3," a Sony representative told GamePro in an email on Tuesday. "What you are hearing is purely rumor and speculation."

No plans to announce. Not, no plans to reduce the price. They don't intend on telling us either way. It basically doesn't tell us anything.

I'd never heard that. Commodore made all their own chips, plus alot of the chips that atari/apple etc were using. So they could afford to drop their price a hell of a lot before they got anywhere near their cost price.

But it's true that flooding the market and making a loss in the short term is a way to make money in the future. Microsoft launched the xbox 360 way before it was ready to do exactly this.

They can't deny there will be a price drop, because up until now they have always dropped the price of their consoles. It's all a matter of when. I imagine the state of the US economy will dictate that to a certain extent.

Price dropping is a tricky thing to get right. You don't want to do it all the time there are enough people who are still prepared to pay the higher price. As soon as they dry up you then move on to the next tier.

Sony is obviously using the Apple strategy of denying everything until the very day it happens (the cut).

Plus if they mention this SKU way before release date its going to hurt sales of the $399 SKU...

The HDD getting the axe was by far the worst decision sony made with the PS2 slim.

Seriously, they could've created a legal version of HDloader to help with the glacial loading times of some games, but nooooo: they HAD to get rid of it due to piracy, even when pretty much every pirate out there was using DVDRs and only a handful were using HDloader.

Better loading times, now thats an upgrade!

Honestly I didnt know much about commodore's bussines until I read the Amiga Hitory on Arstechnica.

Check it out, is a very good article:nod:

when you put games on the ps2 HDD, they loaded faster than even even games built for HDD use on the xbox. It was amazing.

Fat ps2's aren't hard to come by, and if you really want one, you can easily get one used for probably $50. If people really want ps2 BC, then wait for the ps3 to get to $299 and buy a cheap ps2 to go with it. It's not that big of a deal. It's ultimately a pointless feature when ps2's are still selling well and are cheap as hell.

I'd think Sony would want to keep the 80 gig version going though, as it sells for $100 more than the 40 gig, while the production costs are almost the same. No way does BC and packaging in motorstorm add much to the cost.

I just figure Sony is going to stay with a software BC, 80+gb PS3 with a new game/dual shock 3 bundle. It might even be the white PS3 they just had reported. Motorstorm isn't exactly an amazing game to push consoles. It's an overpriced tech demo.

I know I know, but it aint easy to get a fat PS2 that isnt borderline broken, with a laser thats about to fall or some other glitch.

Dunno, thats been my luck with these machines.

About the PS3, getting one and a PS2 instead of an expensive BC PS3 is what I was talking about...

Sony Starts with everything and it slowly goes to hell

Microsoft starts with nothing and slowly adds and enhances things

Nintendo doesn't do a damn thing besides say "fuck HD"

Go figure.....I wish Sega would make a hardware comeback.

    1. If you want BC, pay extra or it. Otherwise close your cake-hole, as you made your choice.
    2. Sony have added lots of things since launch on both the PSP and PS3, with many more things planned.

Yes, back when game systems were made without gimmicks and for the sole purpose of playing games. And first parties made great games back then too, and didn't have to resort to buying people.

You know what would rule. A console made by the people for the people.
Console made for the perpose of giving indy Devs a Canvas to Paint on with
    no region protection whatsoever.

Sure it'd sell like....nothing but True gamers will pick that son of a bitch up like Britney Spears at a buffet.

I'm afraid those times are gone dude:-(...

    What? the Phantom?

I'll rather get another console made by a godless, sweatshop-abuser, baby-seal-clubbing corporation than one made by guys with no experience whatsoever...

Yup, 20GB is what I want, but I don't think I'll have one for awhile. Don't have the cash to drop on a new system, and have plenty to play at the moment, plus there's not enough PS3 games I want to play yet.

Whell the PS3 is almost bulletproof compared to PS2, so it wont be hard to find a used 20GB model thats working properly.
