    hello guys

i had this pu-7 motherboard cause i realy liked the s-video that was on it, when i tried to mod it i noticed solder pad 5 was missing, i soldert to the via but to many times trying different chips, the via came off.

i got a new scph-1000 (japanese first launch) with the pupose to set things right.
this one is a newer revision (1-655-322-15) the other board was 1-655-322-13, it had pin out numbers and a few differnt chips, also it has white paint for the numbers and letters.

the PIC modchip is the new pu-7 and the 5 wire modchip is a picture of my previous pu-7.

Now for problem, i tried 3 different modchips 5 wire, old crow, and a chip that came from a scph-750x (the pic you see in the picture).
They boot japanese games original and backup fine.
But for original/backup usa & pal.. the disc spins slow then speeds up, then you would expect the game to start but it just keeps spinning at the high speed and the memory card & cd-player screen comes up, at the speed like it thinks there is no disc in the drive.

so not region free, is my point 5 correct?

i hope someone can help me close this project succesfull..

I just had a look, and I have a modded PU-7 board sitting here that works - it's an earlier revision than either of yours (1-655-322-11), and the only thing I can notice is that the wire from your lower solder point is not connected to pin 4 of the chip, but is instead connected to pin 8, and hence permanently grounded. Pin 4 is not connected at all. This install also has pin 2 connected to pin 22 of the mechacon chip, but I'm pretty sure that's just a clock signal and shouldn't have any effect on the actual operation.

If it plays backups, its installed right.

Which code is that chip using? You should use Stealth 2.8a for that machine.

I have no idea what the code in the chip on my board is - it was already installed when I got the machine. I just had a little play with it, and it seems to be rather strange - I tried hooking the gate wire to pin 5, and it didn't work (would only boot backups, not originals) - when I scoped the chip, there was the correct data stream on pin 6 and nothing at all on pin 5, even if I lifted the wire from it and used a pullup resistor to VCC.

Judging from the 4-wire install in the OPs photo, I guess he's either using the original Old Crow code or one of the multimode chips installed in 4-wire mode.

Hey bad_ i dont know what code is on the chips i tried several chips , few are old crow 4 wire and i tried a 5 wire chip, all worked fine accept that they will only boot jap games so weird.
these chips worked fine on other pu-7 & pu-8 boards..
they are old ones they came from previous 1999 and maby 2000, 2001.
    so no mm3.

Do you think using Stealth 2.8a will fix the problem?

maybe you have 300x series, and if i'm not wrong with modchip this series boot only japanese games :\

I think also stealth 2.8a chip (you can use also mayumi V1 or mm 2.x they are better) don't resolve the problem :p

3000 series have a different bios, which dont allow out of region.

However, he said 1000 - but I do agree that the symptoms sound like a 3000.

And yes, no modchip fixes it - would need a bios swap.

also is it possible to piggyback the new bios on top of it , cutting the leg that provides power, and supply power from a capicitor to the power leg of the new chip?
if so, can anyone point out wich leg is power and what capisitor would be the best to tap power from , suggetions welcome

Were there ever any SCPH-3000s with a PU-7 in them? All the ones I've ever seen were PU-8, and didn't have the S-Video socket (which was something that the OP specifically mentioned).

According to wikipedia - yes. But I personally didnt think so either, which is why I didnt suggest it until master991 bought it up.
