Since there's lots of artists signed here i think i can ask...

I'm willingly to start a personal webpage project involving Videogames music, and i'll need people with knowledge of VG music in general, and an artist to create some kind of "mascotte" and Album covers, inlays, cd design to be printed on disc...

The project will be non profit and will be try to bring videogame music to a wider audience. there will media distribution, but very limited and only in the form of themed Albums (i.e. City Themes, intros, battle themes, the best of Shot'em up music ecc ecc).

Anyone interested, please reply here or PM me.

well i can't believe you can't enjoy some VG music pieces like "wood carved partita" from C:SOTN, FFVII still more fighting, or suikoden's bride in black ecc ecc. VG music is not alway top notch, but some real pearls exists and choosing them and widening the audience will be my aim :)

So researching, choosing and putting togheter such albums so that they form a pleasant meld and not just a random compilation. Also i haven't listened to all the music of all the VGs ever made, so worthy submissions and researches will be most welcome.

Also when thing go rolling, we might add songs reviews, linking to live executions and youtube performances ecc ecc. There's going to be lots of things to do!

I've already one album done (provisory title is "Great Intro & Title themes Vol.1)... And it took lots of time to just choose and put in a pleasant order the songs... The ideal would be a pink floyd-like experience, even tought it's impossible :)

currently working on city and castle themes...

What is the real objective you are trying to achieve ?

Do you Want Arrangements/Remixes? (If so) Get into Contact with people from Dwelling of Duels,VGMix and OCRemix. (I am a member of two of these communities and contribute regularly)

    Or just Compilation Albums?

As Someone who has a real passion for VGMusic and see's it no differently than any single other type of music, you have my interest.

There is a person In the DoD community named FoxxDragon (http://natehorsfallmain.homestead.com/)who does a lot of the banner work and has done numerous album artwork/covers for various peoples as well as professional work on video games, I can strike up a conversation up with him over at The Shizz where the DoD forums are hosted if needed.

Example of his work for the Contra 4 Arrangement Album.

Also: A lot of people over at Download Links - Final Fantasy Shrine Forums

Have done similar projects. And Quite a few too.

Does it require a Techno feel? Or a more natural feel?

Like you said: Castlevania Wood Carving Partita.. </

no mass downloads of bulky albums. It'll be a classy limited compilations, something that anyone might enjoy to listen to anyday in his car. Something like one per month. Only the best and well organized.

Concerning Foxxdragon, sure, ask him if he might be interested in helping out in any way.

I can point you in the direction of some classic SFC and MD tunes. Big fan of chip generated music. Even the Mega Drive in the right hands (Read Japanese mostly) can produce som eamazing tunes. Just check out this sample MP3 I put together.

It's no wonder most people think the Mega Drive sound poor when you compare the crap that most western developers came out with to the quality tunes on that MP3.

This is the right spirit! If people come and bring help we'll end with superb compilations!

great yakumo! in the first album i put togheter there's 3-4 snes pieces... I'll really need you help since i'm mostly knowledgeble in snes (USA), nes, psx ps2 and PC music... So i'll gladly take help on the sega saturn (you're supposed to be the master there uh? ;) megadrive, ecc ecc).

BTW i'm not going to place in medleys of fused tracks; i want each of the tracks that will get the honour to be included in a compilation to take the attention they need :)

BTW, what do you think guys of a domain like www.vgmusic.net/org/? .com is already taken and home of a famous midi archive. Or maybe it would be better to take a completely different route like vgmc.net or gamemusiccompilation.com (seems too long!)... What are your suggestions?

    Holy crap.

I guess I'd never heard this stuff through some proper speakers. Is this direct from the audio-out, or through an emulator? (I'd assume and hope the former)

    ----

Also, I've been contemplating turning an extra SNES SPU into a jukebox (wired to a parallel port...) so I may be able to make flawless rips of SNES/SFC tracks, direct from the original hardware through high quality interfaces.
I just have to get around to doing it...!

Ok, well i'll get into contact with him here soon about it to see if he'd be interested.

Also does it matter if it's more modern VGM ?

A lot of modern games have really great soundtracks.
Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance for example , it's VR Mode Tracks are very entertaining while driving a car. A friend of mine pointed it out when we were listening to it while driving for 6 hours straight. To me I hadn't noticed because I like all music the same but, for someone who isn't musically inclined (or likes video games)to like it shows that a piece will be accepted by a wider audience no?

FM Synthesis For the Win my good fellow.

I am a complete FM Junkie. I just love it Xp

There is a Live DJ Set piece that's 40 mins Long that Yuzo Koshiro did for Bare Knuckle/Streets of Rage some years back. It's really fantastic. I'd have to find it on my HDD unless you guys already have it.

One thing to consider though is a lot of people I've noticed don't really like the chiptune sound as much because it's so indicative of the fact it's from a video game. Thus being silly/irrelevant/etc. to them. This might be a stretch but maybe a consideration is just to have people Arrange them for modern instruments or even just use Higher Quality FMS on the FM/chiptune tracks.

Perhaps the best thing to do would be an experiment , have someone listen to the original ,then an arrangement and see which hits it off more?

As to who can do arrangements if necessary , I can.
Case and point: These Two Arrangements I did for Dwelling of Duels For MAGFest 8
I can also Enlist some friends from the Remixing/Arrangement community to help disperse the workload

One modern soundtrack That is absolutely amazing in nearly every aspect is Radiata Stories by Noriyuke Iwadare. Some of the catchiest RPG music i've ever heard.

I'm a picky bastard when it comes to music -- I'm the first to admit it. The Akumajo series has always been enjoyable though, I will give you that. I'd just never put it on my iPod.

I'm a professed Akumajou Music Addict. As well as the games, it's played a huge part of my life growing up and until now. There was a point in my life when I was around 12 when i'd listen to nothing but music from Castlevania/Aku and my family never liked it much haha except for a few here and there.
