Seems like the forums are under attack...

We need capture information on signup, now the boards are full of bots...

 

I got 3 PM's from the spammer with the same message before they flooded the board with it. I reported them all when i got them but i guess there wasn't any moderators active between then and now.

 

My inbox was flooded with the same post that's in every forum...

Everything has been cleaned, but the user is still attempting to post... however we still need captures...

 

In general the forum needs some kind of captcha or something for the registration, because having 10 "I like to watch Hollywood movie TV show, my favorite Iron Man, Dark Knight Rises and Lawnmover Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace" posts every day is getting old.

 

The ignore button works wonders.

Still, there has to be some sort of countermeasure we can use - even something as simple as limiting the amount of posts one can make in a set time period might be enough of a deterrent..

 

This issue has been raised with other mods. So hopefully something will be done about it.

 

Yes, that would prevent me to post over complete forum, in like, five minutes, but just one message in the main forum could generate almost as many views as that whole charade, so nothing much would change except it would be less ridiculous, which is good start. And there are many other ways to slow me down, like administrator approval of registration or administrator approval of first 10 message, or limited forum functionality for first 10-20 messages... but again that's all just a matter of time against my motivation. -- You may know karate, but I know craazy!

Your main problem is that you want people to come to this forum and register, which means the problem is hard to overcome given the purpose, and as long as you have that function I'll be able to register as well. And all those bump-stops to slow me down... you see, I can pretend to be a normal person (ha-ha!) and for instance go post some stupid questions on the forum until I pass the trials, or even go around kiss ass and try to make friends, and then later on stab you in the back! Boo-haaa-haa, ha-ha-ha! It's just that I'm not quite a villain, not yet anyway. I'm the good guy here, really. For the love of drugs, don't hate me just because I'm crazy. It's my gift, my curse. Because my avatar shows that I am as immature as someone who bothers to spam the forums over and over. Well maybe I am immature, since I'm getting into a discussion with someone as low as a chinese forum bot.

 

Summer time means the kids are out of school and using premade tools to harass people when bored. They get bored fast so this too shall pass.

Just get kev to install some anti-spam/bot vB mods from vbulletin.org, should be fine then.

I got one from him too, not very smart, there were lots of typos. Also I have never expressed interest anywhere in neo geo or mame so this guy is just a flat out spammer.
