    I think maybe some boards with stringer restrictions like you need X posts to post here or you need to get aproved by mod to post there.
    To find info for free is the cool think of AG, I hate it when google cached something and I am not allowed to view it.
    Links or donwloads for members only is fine by me, also if its means I need to have 200 posts or be a member for 5 month (or a website donater)
    I think AG is a nice place and there are more forums like this, but there are also many noobs and X-S like websites, or worse. I dont like that to happen to this place.

    Its properbly dificult to maintain a balance, my own forum did well till some regular guys dint come over anymore. spam bots everywhere and no new intresting stuff, AG happens to have this everyday a new intresting post. and just about a good volume of users who post informative and/or funny posts. I dont post alott, mainly because english isnt my main language, and also because some people can take my words wrong. but maybe thats just me, and I just should post more and trust others more. I dunno. Go away spammers and to people who want to sell stuff, go ebay, we will find it if you put the right keywords on it. I exidently got a MSX computer part last week, wy do I keep looking for those things online ?

    Long post, luckely my Post count is only +1, there is no word count here :D ow and I like the logo, but not the Blue :/ gonna change my theme.

    In BetaArchive you need a ceirtain amount of CONTRIBUTING posts to access most of the forums and the FTP server. It's a good idea but it would triple the workload of our admins.

    If scammers can get past 200 they can get past 50 even easier. If they spam their way to 200 posts they will throw up plenty of red flags making them much easier to spot. Anyone spamming their way to simply sell in the market doesn't deserve to be here nor do I believe anyone who comes here just to sell really needs to be here either. This place is not anyone's personal flea market. And quite frankly I don't care if raising the limit 150 posts "making it harder for people to sell their goods". If they care about this place beyond making a buck they will stick around long enough to make that 200 post limit go by fast. Anyone whose motivation is to use this place, like I said, as a personal flea market does not get my respect.

    Making this place invitation only is a great way to kill it off fast. We've had plenty of regulars join in the last 2 years it isn't funny and if it was invite only we'd probably not have seen even 1/4 of that.

    I agree raising it to 200 is not really far for the people that read this site everyday and are a bit Anti Social , On most the Forums I use I am more of a lurker than a speaker. I tend to try and read up as much as I can before I ask questions or throw my 2 cents in. Making the site private and invite only is another theory and I think would be great , but on the other hand if someone has something special to offer , being knowledge or something rare and does not have an invite or know any other way to find one then it's either lost or on ebay. But hey to each his own.

    Not my call but personally I'd more prefer there to be a time restriction then post count. So someone would have to be an active member of the forum for 1-2 months before they are allowed to sell. Anybody looking for a quick buck will look else where. If it's a scammer and they're caught the amount of time it will take for a new account to be ok to sell would take too much of their time.

    High post count in my opinion will just lead to more spamming then reducing it.

    They already do for 50 posts, so I also agree with the time restriction suggestion.

    Agree with the time restriction instead of posts limit. Spammers are less likely to waste their time waiting and will move on to other forums.

    I don't want to make it forbidding. I would say 30 days and 50 posts minimum? Does it seem to much?

    That seems fair to me. I'm definitely of the opinion that time limits would be more effective than simply post count at combating spam/useless posting.

    A time limit between posts for new users might help, or posts per hour. Something like that. Be able to catch spambots before they can make too many posts.

    @ASSEMbler
    I think that's fair and would definitely help.
    Lum's suggestion sounds good against spambots as well :)
