I have a 32x that is making buzzing noises from the system.
I think I narrowed down the part that is buzzing.
    http://www.i64x.com/i6img/32x12.jpg

Its the large blue cap looking thing in the picture, I have seen it called a inductor when trying to find a replacement.
On my system however it is black. I see no markings that tell me what it is really.

The top says 331 and it is at L7 on my board.
I think this is also causing video interference with the system as I significant rolling horizontal bars. Can anyone help me find a replacement?

    Thanks

Link is bad, they don't like bandwidth "thieves". If you could post another image I could probably find you a part on Digi-Key that is compatible.

    EDIT:

    ^is this the same image?

Yes, thanks for fixing it. Its not the part being pointed to, but the large part on the left side near the red wire

Not exactly sure what it is judging from the picture. I'm hesitant to take apart my 32x to check out what mine is but it doesn't look much like the inductors I'm used to seeing. Almost looks like the part is adjustable.

It is an inductor. If you download the 32x service manuals (refer sega discussion on this board) it will give you the specs. I have heard of people using glue to shut them up. They shouldn't go bad as they are just wire wrapped around a specifically gapped core. It could actually be the core is slightly loose and is vibrating (worse case).

Sheet says Choke Coil 300UH LHL13TB331k?

Would that fix the video interference though?

How do I get the cap off to glue it?

I can't really find any info on the part number and I cannot get the cap off to glue it.
The cap does move somewhat though

That "cap" would be the top portion of the core, probably best not to try and pull it apart. That core is 1 part of 2 and between these 2 cores is a particular "gap" which is part of setting the inductance (as well as wires size, no. of turns, type of core etc).

    The inductor reads as 300u(micro)H(Henries).

Jaycar (Australian electronics store) sell something close to give you an idea of what to look for. If you want to replace it http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LF1106

330uH are also available on ebay but in a lot of 5 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-330uH-8...aultDomain_0&hash=item3381033a75#ht_173wt_776

At 10% difference it should be ok (should filter better actually).

So epoxy wouldn't help with the video interference?
I could desolder and epoxy it and put it back

Just had a read up on the other thread as well, quite an interesting issue.
Is the buzzing noise high pitched at all?

Just curious as I can't hear too much of the old higher pitches at times.
I mean heck, I've got four of the things, one of them must have a problem like this right? :livid:

The main problem is the video interference is increased and I need to know if this will fix it.

Regarding the video interference, got any pictures?
What type of Mega Drive / Genesis was it being used with as well?

Its not the genesis, I tried multiple systems and the error still occurs.
Scrolling horizontal lines of interference that are not present in my other 32x. Most visible on solid light colors.

The normal bands of interference of some units are wider and more frequent
