This is a rumor that comes from a friend who knows a guy who knows another guy who knows a dolphin, so don't kill me if it isnt true.

"XBLA has seen some pretty serious deal-making in this first quarter - it's been a real priority," explained the source. "The deal-making has been a no-brainer for everyone we've spoken to and, aside from a few licensing issues with existing products, XBLA is going to smash Nintendo's Virtual Console to pieces."

"You've heard of MAME right? Right. We're just doing a legal version of MAME, meaning that all the game owners get paid and the users get quality product based around a community," said the MS source. "Imagine the biggest arcade in the world, just 1,000 times bigger. It'll have as many machines as we can possibly get, all with score-rankings and other community stuff. It's not a secret that MAME was massive for hackers of the original Xbox and the pull and sales of retro game packs on current machines is still really high. If this is taken and put under the right noses, it should become the biggest thing in mainstream/hardcore gamer crossover in the industry."

"Sega games will be included in a major way. It's a surprising addition to the deal and will include games that Nintendo will also be selling. The Nintendo deal is not exclusive."

"The XBLA stuff [at Microsoft's E3 conference] is going to make up a major part of what they're going to show. The sheer quantity of games in the 'classic' bracket that are going to be shown and the vision of what XBLA will become should be one of the big news stories at this year's E3."

Holy shit! honestly since SEGA announced support for the revo's virtual console I knew they would do the same for Xbox Arcade (and a subsequent PS3 service) but MAME? that's new...

Actualy i belive this was reported on other sites before spong. I still take it with a grain of salt but hopefuly this means the rumor of dreamcast games on xblive is going to be a reality.

Doubt it subbie. The console is still too ''fresh'' for such things if you ask me.

The point is that if this is true then is for the good. Competition is always better (remember the 16bit days?) and this would avoid the exageration of prices in both sides.

Whoa, I think that's too big. I mean Chankast isn't fully working yet...

    So?

You do know your talking about sega... the people who made the dreamcast right?

Im pretty sure they know abit more about the hardware then the people writing Chankast (if they are even still working on it. i thought they stoped.)

They also made the SegaCD, and they couldn't get SonicCD running in the GC until recently, while the guys at Gens have a SegaCD emu since 99 or before.

Who knows, the X360 has a lot of brute force, but somethings depend more on the actual code...

Was sega working on bringing SonicCD to the gc or anyother platform back in 99?

The fact you can emulate dreamcast games on chankast on a 2ghz cpu with windows running on the background around 2 years ago with an emulator made by people who dont have the tools that sega have doesnt leave any doubt in my mind that the x360 can emulate the dreamcast. After all it does somewhat emulate the xbox.

No but they did like 3 sonic games collections before making one with SonicCD, and all the rumors were that SEGA couldnt emulate the SegaCD.

Anyways, who knows? the DC is way more versatile than the SegaCD.

So when you say they couldnt you really mean there was a rumour that someone or another made up and you took it for more then it was worth....

As i said the 360 already emulates the xbox and has much more power then chankast emulated the dreamcast with before that along with the fact sega has all the inside information on the dreamcast you cant say that the 360 isnt able to emulate the dreamcast.

I don't see why. Dreamcast games are already downloadable online, legally, for play on your PC.

Mame is so far out of the legal relm of posibility that i can't help but laugh.

    As for the article itself...

Does anyone actually believe rubbish like this? I've been known to promote the xbox now and again, and i think the live arcade is an awesome idea, but that article isn't worth the electrons it's printed on.

MAME is legal, xbox ports of mame are illegal because they were compiled using stolen xbox dev-kits.

You are completely right about that article being worthless however.

Legal Mame on Xbox would be a swell idea, don't think for a second the Microsoft big wigs haven't noticed all the Xbox hacker sites out there and what people are doing with thier hardware. If there's no Mame there will be a larger assortment of classic arcade games.

Who does microsoft think is going to program all of these "Live Compatible" upgrades to old games? Developers are already pushed to the brink having to support 8 different active consoles (Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, Revolution, 360, PS3, DS, and PSP). That's a whole hell of a lot of cash right there, who's going to pay to have programmers sit there and update 20 year old assembly code to make Joust support Live leaderboards?

It really doesn't make much sense to me... I see a similar issue with the revolution btw... there just isn't enough manpower to do what nintendo wants.
