This was announced AGES ago but SEGA finally showed something off:

This appears to be a port of the Sega Ages Monster World collection (although it's missing Monster World II: Wonderboy 3 the Dragon's Trap), and it's being handled by M2, not backbone. The heart of this collection, however, is the release of Monster World IV - fully translated into english - for the first time ever outside of Japan.

This is my absolute favorite Sega series of all time, I can't goddamn wait. Only the XBLA was shown off today, but the PSN version was announced over a year ago, so this is assuredly coming to the PS3 (and likely Steam) as well.

Sega's string of DD hits continues. It's the worst kept secret in gaming, but Sega also hinted that Shenmue is the next game which will be announced (and it will be).

Oh yeah!! Sega's download games have been fantastic over the last year or so. It's good to know they are getting back to quality after so much shit. Even their latest full priced game, Binary Domain is very good. The magic is slowely making a return.

their jet set radio port looks fantastic too. Don't forget about Virtua Fighter 5 FS coming too. Sega is killing it with DD.

Cool, apart from Wonderboy IV being in English it does seem worse then the Wondeboy Collection that was released in Japan a few years back on the Playstation 2... As that had all the Wonderboy games... and was very cheap anyway and had lots of extras and was a real product with nice instrucition manual and box...

I have a feeling this will be dual language. Most of Sega's download titles are dual. I's based upon either your 360's language setting or area depending upon the game. I sure hope to God I don't have to look at those horrid Genesis systems. They just look so cheap like someone had taken a PAL Mega Drive and added the Japanese red ring section then slapped on a big ugly sticker.

Look at the image of the game selection menu - you can see that the brick wall in the background with the game art is curved, and you can see behind the one for Monster World IV. There appears to be other screens back there, covered up by the walls, and one of them is the japanese title screen for Super Wonderboy Super Monster World (aka Monsterland). I would expect this game has some options and unlockables, given Sega's treatment of ports lately, and M2's track record as well.

Is there any gaming company kicking more ass in the digital spectrum than Sega right now? In the last 6 months alone, we've got Renegade Ops, Daytona USA, House of the Dead 3 & 4, Sonic CD, Virtua On, and Guardian Heroes HD. Throw in Jet Set Radio HD, Virtua Fighter 5 FS, and even older stuff like Outrun Arcade and Afterburner Climax, and hell even Sonic 4 looks very improved. Then stuff like Super Street Fighter II with online play on the Wii (Sega is developing and publishing it). I mean there's no other company with that sort of digital catalog right now.

What's incredible is just how much Sega gets it. They're the only japanese developer that is very serious about DD. They have an entire division in the company - Sega West, formerly Sega of America - that is entirely devoted to digital content. All this broad change stems directly from Sonic Unleashed. I dunno if anybody follows releases like that, but Sega of Japan was shocked and upset by the reception that game received. They thought they had a hit on their hands, and they weren't expecting those crushing review scores. So they hired a market research firm to find out what they needed to change in the series, and said research firm essentially monitored forum discussions about Sonic and Sega as a whole for 6 months following the release of the game, and presented their findings to Sega and Sonic Team. Thats why, suddenly, Sega seems to know about the Sonic Cycle and references it in their online marketing. That's also why Sega's online presence seems so much stronger now - Sega of Japan saw the research so invaluable that they created a branch over at Sega West specifically dedicated to monitoring fan feedback. And since that branch resides at Sega West, which is located in the US and handles all of Sega's digital content, that's why we've suddenly seen games like Monster World and Jet Set Radio popping up, instead of old genesis roms.

I like how Sega has been really setting the bar higher for other digital developers. Just taking a rom and throwing it together with an emulator frontend is really acceptable. All the games Sega has been putting out in the last year have been definitive ports. Basically, they put way more work into their DD releases than anyone else, Nintendo included.

It's a good time to be a Sega fan.

This isn't actually an official announcement, that's coming either tomorrow or next tuesday. This is actually a listing from the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace. When this was first announced, it was announced for XBLA, PSN, and Wiiware. No doubt it's at least coming to PSN, and probably steam as well.

Yeah the indifference about Genesis is really something. Some part of Mega Drive not releasing in North America doesn't click with people. Sure they readily more than know and admit that, but the idea carries little significance.

Their DD ports may be good, but they haven't put out a good new game in a long time...unless you count Sonic Generations, which was massively disappointing with less than 10 hours of content.

I have to play Binary Domain myself before saying it's good. Especially since all the reviews say it's similar to Gears of War, and GoW is boring as fuck.
