http://www.destructoid.com/sega-confirms-virtua-fighter-5-will-be-online-for-the-360-34467.phtml HAHAHA I've been saying this for month and nobody belived me. HAHAHA pretty awesome though I've become a pretty big VF fan
Socking but I wonder if it was sega PR & digital sumo who made the push for it (am2 is anti online). It's still posible for them to patch the ps3 version to throw in online.
Killer app strikes the final blow. If this is true: 360 here I come. Soon you will all feel the wrath of Lei Fei and I. Him bald, me desperately needing a haircut. You will learn to fear us. And I need to get off the Bawls.
so what do ps3 owners actually get for their super awesome free online service? Wasn't this game developed on the ps3 as well..
Actualy the game was developed for an arcade based on PC parts. The only connection with ps3 is the fact they use simular GPUs. Ps3 is the first console port but it is still a port and not the primary platform.
My bet is Microsoft pushed them into it. It will be interesting to see if the game really can cope with it.
I love Bawls. I had some today actually. This is some more good news for the 360. Is it still too early to tell who's going to win this gen? And does the Wii even count? Honestly?
Looks like I'll be getting the 360 version as well now then, and that means another arcade stick as well, all worth it for VF though. I have doubts whether VF can keep it's frame perfect timing style of play online, but it'll be better than nothing at least.
This article proves what I already know: Major gaming publications (or whatever this site is) never look at the whole picture. VF5 will not work right online. It will be a dumbed down version of the game. The fastest WANs in the world would have a hard time keeping up w/ the pure engine... much less the shit connections in America. SO, sucks to be Sony? Not really. This was obviously made to appeal to the DOA titty-addicted demographic that understand little about the fighting engine, and would sacrifice basically the whole guts of the game to play it online. EDIT: It now proves something else I knew. The old Sega is now entirely dead. Sacrificing quality to appease Microsoft. Can't believe the leading innovators in the industry now whore themselves out to anyone.
Online isn't gonna harm anything. If it sucks, don't use it, pretty simple. Until any of us have played the game, we really can't tell if its gonna be any good (at least the online, actual game should just be an improved version of the PS3 version). Plus, lag is caused by latency, which is caused by distance, not upload speed. As long as you have a 256 or 384kb up, you should be fine, providing you're not playing someone in Tokyo from Seattle, or using a satellite connection. On a perfect connection that travels point to point at the speed of light, your lag (send and recieve) from the US to Japan will be a minimum of around 75ms. If you're playing somewhat locally though, it could be as low as 15 or 20ms, perfectly playable. The entire engine won't be sent, just co-ordinates and commands, I assume (I've never made an online game, but I guess it's along the lines of sending the X, Y and Z and actions over, and the 360 renders it there). If CS:S can do it with 16-32+ players, why can't VF with 2? So, why would AM2 (known for making some of the best games ever) implementing an online mode ruin everything? I trust them to have done it right, they're the kings .
I was under the impression that Properller Arena contained/was intending to feature an online mode. Which was made by AM2 iirc.
Please think before spouting stuff you don't know. The game, as-is, will not work right online. Ummm... no, you won't be fine. The game as it is cannot be played online by two machines in the same town (there are arcade games that do this -- this is not one of them). 384kb up? Bah. I've got 10Mb up, and I wouldn't bother w/ someone down the street. And yes, I know plenty about latency. A dedicated T1 from the US to Tokyo is ~150ms. That's dedicated... no interweb porn downlods affecting it. Apples and penises. CS doesn't rely on moves that are a very small fraction of a second. You can probably find a VF guide. There are X frames per second... I can't for the life of me remember how many. Some moves take as little as 4. However, all moves have recovery time, as well as windows where they can have any number of attributes affect them. This will all have to be massaged to work online. This isn't even touching on the fact that the game engine is built around having all the data right there in memory. Now, it's coming down ethernet... hardly a good idea. Nah, they are a part of Sega (read: fucking idiots... just like seemingly everyone in the industry today).
