    Sega Dreamcast CHECK-GD: Loop Checker v1.00

    Source: http://segakatana.com/hardware.php?cat=dcdev&id=dclp100

    This disc was used by Sega of Japan, to check various parts of the Sega Dreamcast to see if the hardware was working properly. These discs were never released to developers, as they were internals of Sega of Japan.

    Here's a YouTube video of this disc running off the HKT-0120 Sega Dreamcast Development Box:

    Here are the many screens you can see when you run the disc on the Sega Dreamcast:

    Cool, never seen that before. Does it "actually" work, like if you took the modem out, can it tell? Pretty cool.

    By the way the Kanji on the disc reads: Kenkyukaihatsuki (it is pretty small though)

    Means, Sega CS Research develpment tool/ability

    In proper english would be something like Sega CS development research tool.

    I'm currently trying to work this little disc. I know that when I open the Dreamcast CD tray, the screen stays the same, as if I were using a System-Disc 2, and when I load a game, you can hear the Dreamcast booting the game but stays at the little Loop Checker menu.

    I've inserted my Sonic Adventure disc, so I'll see how the Dreamcast responds with the Loop Checker still running and the many options.

    P.S. - Thanks for the translation! ;-)

    ====================
    EDIT
    ====================

    I ran my Dreamcast without a CD into music mode, then I inserted the Loop Checker.

    In Track 2, a broadcasting tone played. It skipped to track 4 and played the Sonic_CD song I posted here: http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=108605#post108605

    There are 3 playable music tracks in the disc, and skips from track 2, to 4, to 6. There are 122.04 total minutes of data.

    ====================
    Another EDIT
    ====================

    I've just re-flashed my Sega Dreamcast :banghead:. Some of the GD data can be read onto a computer, so I've uploaded a Word Document I found in one of the zip files:

    That word file is a checking guide with a koutei/process kaizen/improvement guide.

    Once I have finished my work for tomorow I'll give it a proper look over and see if there is anything very exciting in it. I'm guessing it is probably available in english anyway.

    How much did that disc go for? I swapped it for 2 white label promo discs of Timestalkers and sold it for £25

    I was almost outbidded for this & was outbidded for the GD-CHECK, and I barely won the Loop Checker.

    Do you by the way know what are the differences between this & the GD-CHECK: Internal Printed disc?

    I never really bothered with it. I remember it coming up with a black screen and having some white text in the top left stating the GD Drive was working properly.

    Both discs were totally useless to me lol. How much did the GD-Check discs go for?

    I lost by 2.00 GBP. You could imagine how I felt :crying::crying::crying:.

    All is great though; if that's all it did, it seems pretty useless compared to the Loop Checker. If I had won both, I would've probably gone bankrupt! :redface: (J/K)

    Oh, so you are the winner of the Loop Checker ;) Thanks for the pics, I'll post some of the GD Check tomorrow. Apparently so few discs were made that Sega of Japan didn't even printed the disc, is a silver GD-ROM.
    It makes some tests to check the GD Drive and GD-R discs. The options are "Error Check"; "Seek Time Check"; "Aging Check". Internally the HKT number is HKT-999999 lol, Version 0.1.
    I knew that crissybwoy had first the discs, I had no idea about how much they were sold first so I bid up high.

    I wonder what's inside the High Density layer of this disc ;-)

    HKT-999999 wow! Sounds like a beta number to me. Nice knowing it got into the hands of a board member. I was scared it would fall into the hands of a private collector *cough* Sonic X-treme *cough*and more was never going to be known. Feel free to incorporate your pics into this thread. ;-)

    I have yet to buy an Adaptec SCSI card for my GD-Writer. Until then, I won't be able to find out what kind of data is in the GD-ROM. :-( Here's what I could pull up from my PC:

    Here's what's inside the LZH file in the CROSS_CHK folder:

    These are the screenshots. Looking the content of the track readable by the PC drive, it has a Readme.txt (in Japanese), and a folder called IP with 2 different IP.bin files.

    Nice pics everyone, thanks for sharing. I wonder why the F40 demo was burned on the low density area of the GD? Weird.

    Heh, I only got as far as the first screen with that one Fatalist got, then I got bored & advertised them on here for sale or trade! Adam James offered me something like £10 for the 2 as no-one else was offereing anything. I was quite happy once he offered £50. I am happy they have gone to some members of the board who will get some enjoyment from them. I know where there is another loop check GD although I dont know if I can get it from its owner as cheap as i got those 2 (approx £4 for the 2).

    Remember, with dev stuff it's all worth what the buyer is willing to pay. I regularly throw out piles of stuff that is junk to me, yet would probably fetch plenty of cash on eBay. Course there's those three little legal letters that prevent me from doing so. ;)
