I didn't realize until now that the DC dev units have a different start-up screen than retail DCs. Did Katanas also have a different startup screen? I'd like to see it, if anyone has recorded it.

They run like every different region version of the DC startup screen, so although the one you saw on the Youtube video might have looked different it is possible to run one that would of been familiar to you.

...DC Dev unit's are the 'same' as Katana's in terms of significant H/W etc, 'Katana' is merely a sticker on the front.

...Oh and nice video Mark, thanks for sharing.

oldengineer, that Dev kit start up isn't on any retail Dreamcast. The US and Japanese models are basically the same while the PAL one is blue. THe one on the dev kit was full 3D.

    Is it not?

I don't have any other region DC's, I only have a Dev Kit and a PAL DC, I just assumed that somewhere in the world there was a DC that started up like that being as the Dev replicates Retail DC's, oh well you live and learn :)

I've only seen that startup on the dev kits.

The American DC afaik boots like Pal except it's orange instead of blue.

The MPEG Encode Samples from the Sega Dreamcast CHECK-GD: Loop Checker disc have been uploaded on YouTube. They are: ManxTT (Honda), Sonic3D, and SonicCD.

These could not have been possible without the help of drkIIRaziel and PsyMan of Emuforums. Many thanks!

Also, there were two images that caught my attention. They looked like the prototype screenshots of Windy Valley from the Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure. What do you think?

The palettes seem odd, probably that neon color that I've never seen in SA before. It's definately a platformer but I'm not sure what function that rolling ground would have. Sonic would just speed right over it. Perhaps thats why it's a prototype.

Very nice! Thank you for sharing! Those mpeg are in the disc just for testing the mpg decoding?

Pretty much. I have no idea why they, along with other BMP and WAV files, would be located in the high-density layer though.

The second image definitely looks a familiar pattern, very SA-esque, so it could well be a testing version of it. The first one, however, has a little too much terrain. That wavy style makes me think of the patterns used as you're being blown about.

    Hmm....
