I haven't seen many of these around on the net so I thought I'd share these ones with you that I took today in Sega World. Personally I don't really like the look of these new cabinets. The screen is nice but everything else screams cheap futuristic design to me. The whole cabinet just looks tacky. Of course that's just my opinion. Yakumo
If anything it looks very retro to me, 1980's hi-fi style. The slot doesn't appear to fit in with the overal design and looks like they bolted it on as an after thought
Looks a bit too silvery n shiny to me. Shame that they seem to have skimped on the cab, when to some extent that's the most important feature to attract gamers...
I MIGHT have a quick video of it on the vidoes at the end of this article. I can't remember, but there is some VF5 footage in one of the videos. I like the cabs. If you're one to go in and prop your shit up somewhere, you've got loads of space. The cabs aren't cheap, either. I believe they are in the half a million yen range apiece. I think someone at virtuafighter.com got a quote for Sega. $17k USD for a full VF5 versus setup. 2 cabs + 2 boards. EDIT: Yes, the first fight in the VF5 video in the above link is of a match on a cab, but you don't get to see much of the cab... just the screen. The 2nd one is an LCD hanging on a wall.
Sorry. I only had 1 bar left on the battery meter when I took those pictures. The video camera won't work if the battery power is too low. What you can't see in the pictures is the nasty el-cheapo metal grid design on the control pannel where the stick and buttons are. I also felt that the actual control pannel was too low but that could just be because the screen is set so high. Yakumo
Thanks for the pics Yakumo. I love arcades  Yeah, the cabinet looks very "basic". And what's the deal of not having the 2nd player joystiq and buttons? EDITED: I understood now. That cabinet is for the 2nd player. But why making a two player cabinet, to use for just one controller?
I agree on the 80s retro look, in fact the hd dvd player by toshiba has this look, maybe its intentinal?
I think Egrets are really overrated. The only thing they have over a Blast City city is the easily switchable (yoko/tate) monitor. That's a factor if you're buying for home, but at an arcade, I could care less. Well, not true... some of the really old Egrets (Egret29 I believe) have some shitty panels and look like they're made for migets. Really horrible. Honestly though, I'm more picky about the sticks they've got inside.
thats probably what they were aiming for, attracting gamers by setting their cabs apart from the competition. i doubt that making them look worse than all the other cabs is going to help the cause, though. however, these are still miles ahead of the ugly wooden bricks that populated arcades until the late nineties, so id say its not _that_ bad.
Always nice to see new arcade cabs, but this thing is pretty hideous. Reminds me of cab style that the old Atari "720" game used back in the day.
if you are referring to the ugly bricks, i've got one of these myself, a 1996 wargods. cant afford these sleek naomi cabs, unfortunately.
You at school Eva? Most schools seem to block image sites. It works fine here still. And yea, I was referring to the huge cabs
no, house.... meh.. this damn firewall... let me turn it off... edit: yeah it was the firewall... The cabinet isnt THAT bad, what i find really ugly is that metal box under the screen and all that metal around the screen and speakers... if they removed that it would be really nice.
