No, but you might just have to endure the next Sonic game! Could you sign off a product like that, knowing all too well it's probably going to hit the market with significant unresolved glitches and more than likely receive a critical mauling anyway due to a series losing its reputation for high quality long ago?
£5.73 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older £4.77 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive £3.53 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of school age. Or in real terms not enough to really rent anywhere in London on your own.
"OK, I'm going to leave you to play this game on your own now. Do you think you can manage that?"
LOL a games QA tester for sega OMG i think im going to piss my self laughing. Is this a new thing they are going to implement for their games now????? In fact thats a bit harsh as both let's tap (wii) & phantasy star zero (ds) are outstandingly good games that bear the sega logo. Id never want to work in the games industry, i love games as a hobby & having to do it as a job would destroy all the fun. That job description is pretty lolworthy though, i love how they have worded certain bits, basically if you get the job wave goodbye to your life as you'll live at sega & if they have any other crap jobs for you to do then you'll be expected to do them as they have added that bit in there too LOL
If I understood the basics of debugging, I'd be willing to move to the UK for this shit. It's a foot in the door to greater things.
Such a job is a foot to anywhere else than to greater things! This is really the lowest level job in videogames - even a job as videogame magazine editor is better than this. It's fun if you are 18 years old and have time left for some experiments - nothing more.
Hmm, agreed that it is a pretty low job. However, it IS a job, and a foot in the door. The games industry is not an easy one to get into - unless perhaps you're a SUPER AMAZING animator or coder. Then again, you're more likely to be in a really well paid job already if that is the case ;-) Most companies look for experience in the industry working on two or three AAA titles. And guess what, people? THIS WOULD COUNT!! If anyone's ever heard the old saying that if you want to be a studio engineer, start as the tea boy - it is very true. You won't get a look-in at a studio unless you know someone who realizes your talents or are willing to start with a shitty job and work your way up from the very bottom. If anyone here wants to be in the games industry but has that attitude of the job being beneath them, look for another industry to work in. I'm surprised that people would slate Sega so much - yes they've had some iffy titles, but don't forget they were one of the big boys not that long ago. Back in the day, we loved them. I'd still be proud to say I worked for Sega. Of course, it's attitudes like this that are killing off studios. Make one poor game and your name is mud. Make another and it's the beginning of the end.
It's a foot in the door for driven individuals already experimenting with a little bit of programming or graphics. A foot in the door is a foot in the door. I know a couple of people that got into development that way. It is harder these days, but not impossible.
Yeah, it's absolutely the case. A natural consequence of far too many people after far too few jobs. Still, better odds than the bands...
Hi, Thanks very much for this comment. It help me to think about my ideals. We also find them more same at: Game tester job Tks again and pls keep posting.
This is the unfortunate truth. I've known multiple people who have tested or developed. All have come out a few years later hating video games. Long hours. Shit pay etc.
I worked QA for a while. Pay was better than minimum wage and plenty of opportunity for ovetime(X1.5 pay) Sure you had to play shit games sometimes, but you're in a group of like-minded people chatting and joking all day. Supervisors were pretty cool as long as work was getting done. There was opportunity to rise up the ranks. Unfortunetly when the reccesion hit they let go of alot of people. Now this is just my experience at one publisher(THQ).
Does SOE have any studios left? or you'll be stuck testing the crap games that SOA and SOJ didnt have the time to check?
I believe this may be related to them transitioning back to first party. As a third party, Sega's business strategy was "Quantity over Quality" However when one is to sustain and maintain a platform, then quality is of the utmost importance.
