well it's offical, sega just put up a page for beta testing of their commercial mega cd emulator. Check it out here http://sega-gamehompo.jp/
. they already does for Saturn so it's not surprising really. Damn we need similar service offered outside Japan... cheers
Why bother when you can use GENS for free. That emulates Mega Drive Mega CD and 32X all without a single problem. THe GYM sound isn't 100% correct (players of Thunder Force 4 will know what I mean) but it sure is close. Everything else works like a dream. Probably one of the best emulators out there. Yakumo
Gah, time to break out the shoddy Babelfish translation again... I'm hoping it's not something they're going to charge for, and if so, they would make it easy for Americans to sign up... And what's this, Alien Soldier seems to be one of the games they're releasing? Edit: Just saw your post Yakumo, and while I can't speak for everyone here, I'd like to show Sega that they've got support for this idea - maybe with stuff like this, Sega and other companies will be moved to open their archives and make the classics available to gamers in a legitimate fashion (although I does love me emulators...) Edit 2: Boy does Babelfish do some interesting translations. The subtitle for the FAQ section came up as "Good Question" which I thought was humorously appropriate, but then in the list of planned games there was something called "Throbbing Pengiun Land". :smt104 Think I'll pass on that one...
true True, but it is known that that gens is no longer being worked on. And i think there are some sega cd/mega cd games that are not emulated. Too bad they never ported gens to dc.
Re: true Actually one of the main devers of Gens Stef.D, is helping to rewrite/write some cores to be used in various Genesis Emulators for the Dreamcast. :smt023
thats great Thats great news. When i asked if he ever considered porting gens to dc he said no for the time being. Hopefully this will result in a full speed gen emu on dreamcast. Cause of all the genesis/mega drive emus, his is the best. Too bad 32x emulation was never fully completed.
You guys are missing an important part of the service. You download the games and play them. I dont' even know if this emulator works with retail games. They're only active for X amount of days. Anyone that lived in Japan during the DC's early days will remember the Dream Library. It's similar to that. Jumping to MegaCD is quite a bit jump. They're going from 600k files to 600MB files.
Saturn Emulator was the same thing at begining. I believe the same guys who crack the Saturn Emulator Ill make the same with this Emulator.... Just a matter of time... :drinkers:
Seeems they are offering Valis III for download purchase, man these people have GREAT taste. I bow down to thee
they do have great taste for downloas but what most people outside of Japan don't understand is that here in Japan we can buy a mint copy of Valis III and play it forever on real hardware. Sega are asking 1000 yen for a months worth of playing while you could buy a mint Mega Drive for 2000 yen plus Valis III for about 1000 yen or less. So once the payment of buying the Mega Drive is out of the way it's cheaper to buy the original game which is always better than a file on your PC. I love Sega but I wouldn't suport this service at all. It's way overpriced!! Yakumo
Yeah, they're screwing it up. Even the Dream Library was a bit pricey. 300 yen for 3 days.... at least they put out most of the rare games first.
But playing PC-Engine games on the Dreamcast is so damn cool. Too bad that service never got anywhere outside of Japan. We all should just go buy that Genesis emulator thingy that is coming out for the PS2. And Yakumo is right: playing the real thing on a real hardware beats emulators anyday; plus used Genesis consoles and games are pretty inexpensive nowadays. By the way, I saw an used Dreamcast at a local GameStop for $19.99. In the same store, they are selling an used SNES for $39.99!!
PCE on Dreamcast??? It never got outside of Japan? What are you saying? Typical of our market, it doesn't have to make sense
On Dream Pssport 3 there is a Mega Drive and PC Engine emulator. I never tried the PC Engine one but I'm sure that someone could crack it giving us all a PC Engine for Dreamcast rayer: Yakumo
O man that would be soo great playing all the 2d shooters from the PCE on dreamcast. I hope someone does go to work and cracks that baby
hell yeah that would rock! but isnt there a freeware PCE emulator already? Not sure, but I did see some for GBA and GP32...
Yeah, but there'd be some problems. Namely, the ROMs are stored in RAM, not on a VMU or external device. You only save the rom as long as you ave the power on. The system was setup where you could download unlimited number of times during your rental period. I think that would take more than hacking... decompiling and recompiling... or a way to actually load the ROMs into memory from CD each time, which I think would be a hassle.
All emulators for cartridge-based systems store the games in RAM. CD access times are far too slow to keep them on disc, and VMUs are too small for Megadrive/PCE games. The only difference between this emulator and other homebrew ones would be that the roms were downloaded into RAM from the net rather than a CD. I'm shocked it hasn't been ripped already. I know the Smash Pack was.
Um, all catrdige based systems store the games in cartridges. The system bankswitches the data in. The SNES doesn't have 12 megabytes of RAM to hold the largest game the CPU could theoretically address.
