Sega Master Systems have become horrendously brittle

That game's edge connector is probably dirty or has a broken trace or something in the cart. Does it do this on a master system? From what I've seen, an incompatible game will work but not show any video, only audio. Controller inputs also work.

I haven't found a list yet but I know that any game that uses video modes other than mode 4 will not display video. This includes many SG-1000 games and F-16 Fighting Falcon.

 

Thanks for the info! I'll pull out some cleaner, see if that's the issue. For whatever reason, the game starts up just fine, but once the actual gameplay begins it goes all wonky. I don't have an actual SMS, I just use the converter on a Genesis. The system has some decent games that still play well today. I'm playing Golden Axe Warrior now...a total Zelda rip-off, but certainly enjoyable in its own right.

You're welcome! Hopefully you can get it working. I still need to get an SMS and SMS games. I really would like to get into that library.

The problem is not with denting. The plastic on many SMS1 consoles is becoming extremely brittle. I had one shipped to me and the casing came in a dozen pieces. It simply shattered -- no denting stage in between.
