Has anyone ever seen this converter before. I tried to buy it of ebay (click) but was to slow. :crying: For the people that don't know what a Sega Mega-Tech is, some background info (click)
Wow I've never seen that before! That said if it only converts Fifa then I wouldn't lose any sleep. Looking at the print on the PCB it looks to be generic convertor which would mean you could take an MD game and convert it to arcade.
Yeh thats just what i thought. The cart looks untouched meaning any MD game could be converted to arcade with that converter.
The pin out to reproduce something like that probably isn't difficult. That's probably not an official board.
The board reads I think Mega-Tech Converter V3.0. If someone would be able to dump it, than it would be easy to reproduce. I was hoping someone from this board bought it.
Tiertex still exist (http://www.tiertex.com/) so maybe you could drop them an email and find out if you can get any information about this convertor. All Megatech cartridges have the additional bios to generate text and information for the secondary screen as well as other information, the bios probably has some checksums to stop you using any old megadrive cartridge but it should not be too hard (if you are technically skilled) to change it.
It's actually not another one. It's the same one. The dude that bid 155 didnt bought it. I got offered a second chance but was unsure about shipping costs and him willing to ship outside the UK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEGA-MEGA-TECH-EA-SPORTS-FIFA-SOCCER-/360362027560
Awesome find! From what I could recall the Megatech/Megaplay carts were no different from the final console carts/roms in anyway except each cart also had the console's bios rom piggybacked onto the game rom, so in theory I dont see why this should not work with any MD cart.
Well I don't know. The labels hints that the chip is specially made for Fifa Soccer. TIERTEX MEGATECH V1,1 FIFA SOCCER 01/08/94
Not exactly. The megatech carts have the same roms than the retail version but with an additional rom. This rom runs on the other part of the hardware and display info about the game (name, description etc ...). Those info are displayed on the top screen (the 14"). For the megaplay, iirc, they don't use the retails roms so the game might be different.
Megaplay carts are different as they are modified specifically for arcade play, for example Sonic the Hedgehog has a shorter time limit then the home version and things like extra life TVs do not give you an extra life just score.
Nice to know, I had little time to notice diferences with my Megaplay carts as my PCB died after a few hours of gameplay T__T
I own a bunch of Mega-Play carts and own a Mega-Play cabinet. Made a picture of the guts of a Mega-Play cart so you guys can see it. Not many pictures around of those
This is the list I have for Megaplay cart, could you update/correct it with your info please ? -== MegaPlay =-- 610-0297-XX [Mega-Play 01] Sonic [Mega-Play 02] Golden Axe 2 [Mega-Play 03] Grand Slam [Mega-Play 04] Tecmo World Cup [Mega-Play 05] Street Of Rage [Mega-Play 06] Bio-Hazard Battle [Mega-Play 07] Sonic 2 [Mega-Play 08] ??? [Mega-Play 09] Mazin Wars Shinobi III ??? Columns III ???
according to system16.com the available titles are Bio-Hazard Battle Columns 3 Golden Axe 2 Grand Slam Gunstar Heroes Mazin Wars Shinobi 3 Sonic The Hedgehog Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Streets Of Rage Streets Of Rage 2 Tecmo World Cup so that missing number could be Gunstar Heroes as well.
I'm afraid System16 is wrong about that though. Streets of Rage has never surfaced for the Mega-Play only Streets of Rage 2. For the Mega-Tech however there is a Streets of Rage. On System16 they also have the wrong image, as its missing the insert coins screen on the title screen.
