Personally, I just wish they would release a port of Super GT (Scud Race). That would probably be infinitely better than any original crap they could come up with.
I've been waiting for a home port of Scud Race since the Dreamcast tech demo... Outrun 2 has proven that Sega still has what it takes when it comes to arcade racing games.
I think not only arcade racing games, but games itself. After Burner Climax on the arcades. Why still not a home port? But yes, they can do shit like Sega Race TV... Also, why no Scud Race port for the dreamcast? They did bother to make home ports of shit like 18 Wheeler (both DC and later on for the PS2!!!), but no Scud Race? What about Emergency Call Ambulance? What about Virtual On for the PS2 without online mode? (When the Network Adapter was already avaiable). Sega is crazy. Totally. Thank god they gave the job of porting OutRun 2 / SP to Sumo Digital.
Still waiting for the release of Outrun2 on the US PSN.... Oh and Emergency Call Ambulance was rumored for the DC.
Highway Games product listing The new Sega LCD racing cabinet is very nice indeed. Daytona is back. Bring it.
Well, it seems the rumours were true and Sega Racing Classic is a way around the licensing issues that would otherwise prevent a new Daytona from being released - let's just hope Takenobu Mitsuyoshi won't have to fit this new title into his old theme music!
amen to that! I hope they do a better job than what they did with Outrun Online Arcade, that game's got serious bugs.
Think about it though.. How could they have released the Daytona anniversary music boxset? Hopefully Nascar won't be too finnicky when it to the music.
Well, the first videos of Sega Racing Classic are now circulating... and the news certainly isn't good. For starters, it's not a direct sequel to Daytona or even a remake but instead just the original upscaled to HD resolution. Quite why this game requires the powerful Ringwide board is a mystery, though not half as confusing as the decision not to include Takenobu Mitsuyoshi's compositions - if Sega can release a Daytona USA music package without any licensing breach they can surely keep a few tracks in the game... or was it done just in case because the present-day company would struggle financially in the event of a lawsuit? Fingers crossed we'll receive a less half-assed console edition that at least allows for custom soundtracks ("ROOOLLIIING STAAAAAAAAART!!") along with the name we all know and love!
Just watched a couple of videos and I'm really not impressed at Sega's shockingly half-arsed effort. I'll more than likely get a PSN release of it but I really was expecting a little more from AM2.
Checked out some videos on 1up and man, that's disappointing, the game barely even looks better than the original. Another half-assed Sega job, but on the other hand, Daytona is still the best arcade racer ever made, and maybe we'll get an (almost) arcade perfect home version this way. Also, I don't like how they've changed the crash sequence.
What are Sega doing? It's just the same as the bloody original. Sure, Daytona is a fantastic game but if you're going to re-release it 15 or so years later you'd make it look better wouldn't you. Just what the fuck were they thinking? Oh well, at least we should see a perfect home version of Daytona at long last.
Arcade operators in the United States call the original Daytona the "killer app" for the arcade floor. Based on the cost of running it and the amount of money spent to play it, they could literally have an arcade full of nothing but Daytona cabinets and make just as much money as they would with a fully diverse and up-to-date setup. Both hardcore gamers and regular people can't get enough of Daytona and won't stop playing it, ever. The Model 2 design is what, 15 years old now? A lot of those replacement parts are probably harder to get at this point. It would be more of a risk to introduce a new game, or even a slightly tweaked game with a new track or updated physics. "OMG Daytona HD!" is the reaction that would rightfully cause the most operators to buy the gear
Multiplayer PERFECTION! That's what Daytona is. And i agree with kendrick, maintenance on 15 year old cabinets are probably becoming difficult. The last time i saw Daytona USA cabinets (4x Twin cabs connected), they were literally trashed. In some the brakes weren't working correctly, in some the gears were busted. Not to mention broken seats, monitor malfunction... Sega created the ultimate killer app (more info HERE ) and everything released after wasn't as good as it. By the way, did you guys had the chance to play Sega latest arcade racers? Shit like SegaRaceTV and R Tuned: Ultimate Street Racing... SegaRacingClassic is gonna bring smile back on people's faces. Both the players and arcade operators. PS: By the way Sega, i'm still waiting for an AfterBurnerClimax home port! OH:
