Sega Rereleasing the Dreamcast in Japan? Sega’s not flapping their yapper so far as we can tell, but German gaming site Gamefront.de is claiming they’re going to be re-releasing the frickin’ Dreamcast bundled with Radilgy and some limited edition telephone card or something. But our wish come true from the Ghost of Hackable Consoles Past will probably be Japan-only though, distributed through Sega Direct for ¥10,000 (about $83 US) — still, could this be the triumphant return of Sega hardware, even if only just nostalgia-gear? Apparently we’ll find out February 16th (or sooner). http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000790071989/ Uh oh :O
It's no bid deal. Sega have been selling Dreamcast units for years. They did a Puyo Puyo Fever set as well. The Dreamcast units are meant to be refurbished units not new. however I beleive that they do look new. yakumo
Hurray! Long live the little white wonder we call the Dreamcast! It is really good to see that Sega is still willing to support their system, even if it's only in Japan.
Aw, the least they could do is make it backwards compatible with older Sega based CD consoles; the Mega CD, Saturn... Oh well, that would cost more, not to mention it being a hassle to recode the DC itself.
Which accessories could be re-released at low cost? Maybe the broadband adapter, DVD rom or zip drive? What about saturn and mega cd "ports" rather that backward compatibility? On a side note the crappy NEX messiah got distribution through some big national chains, could sega do the same on a low scale? I know they will not but I am pondering the possibility
seems like people are getting too hyped. It just sounds like they are still selling off the shitload of stock they couldn't sell years ago. Doesn't sound too exciting to me really.
you also seemed to miss yakumo's post where he says it's all refurbished models only. That's what I meant. There's a difference between selling refurbished/old stock than actually reproducing them. The fanboys are wetting themselves over nothing new
Wonder if it will be MIL-CD compatible, or if they'll get re-sprayed to give a limited edition desgin just for this game
The Zip drive add-on never went past the prototyping/mock-up stage. The DVD drive didn't even get that far. See also: Sega Ages series on PS2.
still after 6 years, the system is still recieving support, which is a testiment to the system that sega built
Well, Saturns were still made/sold for 5,000 yen well into the DC's life. Maybe it's a Japanese thing, but they tend to support their systems longer. Shit, Famicom's just went out of production a couple of years ago!
I cant help but feel Sega really do miss making consoles Making games for former rivals must really suck for them and working for the enemy must feel like the ultimate defeat Im sure they put secret code in all their games that translate to "viva la dreamcast" or something similar
well don't get me wrong. I love the dreamcast...but all the shenmue III and re-release of the DC shit gets old after awhile....
yes, that's true. I like the original version of crazy taxi. But who needs the absolutely horrible gba port of these game?
