I think you have to hold some buttons.

I talked to Richard a while back, he also told me that the 'Condition Reflex' remix from Sega Touring Car was his work (I thought so).

I thought it was credited to him on the game anyway? I do remember reading that he did the mix mind you. It was probably in the UK Sega Saturn magazine.

    I was something like :

Hold X or Y or Z before/during the gentlemen start your engine screen.

    Complete hint :

Hold one of the following buttons when the phrase "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines" appears to play under the corresponding lighting conditions.

    LightingCode
    Sunrise X
    Starlight Y
    Hazy Z
    Sunset X + Y

Wasn't the Japanese version of Daytona Circuit Edition also given a further visual overhaul compared to earlier releases in other territories? I've heard of some textures and the draw-in distance looking ever so slightly better, though you can't really ignore the option to play at different times of day - that one's just too obvious! As for Richard Jacques being responsible for the STC Mix of Conditioned Reflex, this was indeed hinted in SSM yet never explicitly confirmed. I'm not absolutely sure if he's credited in the game, but it didn't take a genius to put two and two together from all the clues if it isn't mentioned there. Also, the second disc of Last Bronx was indeed a training mode, which later ended up being condensed into the basic feature included overseas. Virtua Fighter Kids had all Java Tea artwork removed for the PAL release for similar reasons to the loss of PepsiMan in Fighting Vipers, and Jeff Jansens was relogated to hidden status in our version of Winter Heat as well.

I never knew about the Japan-exclusive vocal track in Fighters Megamix, although I was aware of a "patience" card game used to ublock extra character artwork, plus a few other little details that lead to my assumption each region-specific version of this game was created with the intention of featuring at least one thing you couldn't find elsewhere. Then again, wasn't the "Taste Of Honey" image taken out of the US edition due to censorship? I seem to remember this being suggested in SSM, but once again I can't be absolutely sure if this is fact or conjecture. Finally, on the subject of popping in redbook tracks I've heard this across several discs including Hang On GP '96, F-1 Challenge and some of the earlier Sega Flash samplers. Does anybody know what causes this? Was it a mastering error, perhaps?

The pops in redbook tracks are due for some games by the wave header: they mastered a wave file on CDDA instead of a raw PCM file. => mastering error.
Also, do NOT listen to the audio track of Z, it is in fact a .avi file (one of the one found in the game) mastered on the CDDA, and not actual redbook audio.

I don't know. The AVI is not read by the game from the CDDA track, it just reads from the data track. The CDDA track has a copy of it instead of audio.

Suiko Enbu (JPN) had some seriously choppy framerate, was slow as fuck and had really bad load times. These issues were slightly remedied in Dark Legend (US version of the game). However, an updated quasi-sequel (Suiko Enbu: Fuun Saiki) was later released in Japan, with no more technical problems, making both prior versions of the game obsolete.

Wow, I didn't know there was a US release of Suikoenbu! Does the ST-V version have similar problems?

Hi, I am interested to know what the differences are please between Sega Rally Championship (UK PAL version) that I own, and Sega Rally Championship PLUS (USA or Japan NTSC version). Apart from 50FPS versus 60FPS of course?

Are there any significant differences in the cars, what cars there are to drive, the tracks, what tracks you can drive on, music, the handling of the cars, or anything else that is significant?

    Best Regards,

    Alistair G.

So there are still technical differences between Dark Legend and Suiko Enbu: Fuun Saiki making FS superior to the US version? I thought Dark Legend was just a localized Fuun Saiki.

I stand to be corrected, but I was always under the impression that Sega Rally was PAL optimised so although it runs at 50Hz, it's still the same speed as the NTSC version. (I seem to remember this based on the fact you could not use it with a switch mod to a PAL console (to run at 60Hz)).

There's not really much of a difference, except the Plus version can use the XBAND (Japan, doesn't work anymore) or Netlink (US Netlink Edition, works if you have a dial-up provider) modems.

I have thought (as well self-experienced) that it's the other way round. That they had changed the controls in the CCE version away from the original, hence the typical power sliding which made daytona so great in the arcade became now quite difficult to execute on that version.

Nope, the US version of CCE is God Awful. The japanese version while still not being as perfect as the original Daytona conversion is still a hell of a lot better than the US version. Meaning it's more like the arcade although not as good.
