On many specs for the Sega Saturn, it states that it can do HDTV. How is that achieved? I've never seen any adapter or cable that you can get HDTV out of a Saturn. Help!
Probably something to do with the Saturn's very high resolution. It was much higher than anything else at the time including PlayStation and N64. Yakumo
Hm.... that maybe so. I've e-mailed Sega a couple of months ago about it. B*st*rds never e-mailed me back.
This question (or a similar one about VGA output) regularly surfaces on segaxtreme... the point is, the Saturn can do 31khz output but it has to be selected in software, and no games are known to use it. Moreover, no proper cable was ever made.
W0rd, Hi-Ten Bomberman was running on PC Engine (or so say EDGE mag at the time), it is rumored that the code travelled for Saturn Bomberman....I call bullshit. I've heard the same quoted for PC-FX (On PC-FX.com I believe), call bullshit there too. Also, Saturn Hi-Res = very nice........higher (better) than others.......hmmm. Dead or Alive PSX Hi-Res, and other Hi-Res PSX games look wonderful in motion, also see Hi Spec Ridge Racer included with R4. I think often Saturn gets over lauded for anything associated with it. Don't get me wrong, it's my favourite no.1 system ever, but really, it gets undeserved praise on certain subjects (see Hi-res & 2D).
I find it odd the 64 never had high resoloution going for it(guess half of it has to do with cartridge space constrictions), still the saturn could do some amazing things(im still shocked at what they acheived when they were making shenmue for it).
I'm sure I saw a high-rez bomberman on the Saturn. Maybe I'm getting it mixed up by that MegaDrive 8 player Bomberman by Factor 5. Yakumo
Read the VDP2 docs, it can be set in the TVMODE register I think. It does constrain the VDP's drawing abilities, so I've heard. And no production game uses it, as TV's can't sync to 31khz. Hi-res, as in VF2, does not imply 31khz.
I knew that I'd played a 10 player high resolution version of Bomberman on the Saturn and here it is. It's part of Saturn Bomberman. Up to 10 players (Human or computer) can play in one massive screen. There's even an option to change the image for Wide Screen TVs. Yakumo
Yeah, but the original stand alone caravan demo hi-ten was HD, the saturn version is just ten player. I play that all the time with pals.
Damn that bomberman looks fun, to bad they never made a descent next gen version of the game, just imagine playing bomberman online with 10-16 people :smt023
