So I am inexperienced with the Sega Saturn, much to my chagrin. I currently own a Model 1 Sega Saturn. I found an individual local to my area selling a modded Model 2 Saturn for IMO a decent price. The person has owned said Saturn for 5 years, which doesn't bother me as I have owned consoles for decently longer that still function exactly as they did initially. My question: on the off chance that later down the road this modded Model 2 Saturn's motor gives up the ghost, would my Model 1 motor be able to be swapped out for the Model 2 motor? Once again, I am inexperienced with the Saturn and repair in general so excuse me if this question is an unintelligent one. Thanks ahead of time for any responses!
I just had a look at some of the consoles I have here - both of them are using a Mabuchi RF-320CH series motor, but the dash numbers are different - the model 1 is a -13330 (330 turns of .13mm wire) and marked 9V and the model 2 is a -14280 (280 turns of .14mm wire) and marked 5.9V You could try it, but my assumption is that a model 1 motor in a model 2 unit would be too slow to read at 2x.
Hmm, that sounds like a no-go then. I wonder if other consoles or revisions are even more dissimilar. I'd have to look at the motors on both of mine.
I believe the issue here is that the newer drives had a change of design on the servo circuit so they could run the whole Saturn on a single 5V rail.
