Personally i'd like an HD port of D2, and if they're dipping into the Saturn days Deep Fear and Panzer Dragoon Saga would be nice too, though last i heard GameTap owned the rights to Panzer but they had no intention of doing anything with it. Also personally, i never actually got into Nights, didn't get what the point or appeal was. Good release for those that do like it but not for me.

1 request and 1 request only

    Burning Rangers HD

Burning Rangers should have been moved to the Dreamcast to begin with

Panzer Dragoon Saga isn't happening they lost the source code.

    Isn't everyone?

What seems weird to me is that Sega isn't taking real advantage of the indie and mobile craze

Arcade games are PERFECT for phones and tablets: you have good yet relatively short games made to be placed for only a while

And because the bar is so low they could be doing mobile-AAA-grade games for the price of one crappy console game

Instead we get sonic 4, fuck it.

About Nights, it's ok I guess, good thing they included the original too but I thing they screwed up the music, the Suburban Museum track on the trailer sounds bad

Then how could GameTap claim to own it a few years ago?

There's actually a new 360 Kinect game coming out that IS Panzer Dragoon although the name Panzer Dragoon isn't used. And being a Kinect game is looked shit to play. If they made it playable with a pad it would be great. I can't remember what it was called though ATM.

There's been a few games for Kinect that might have been decent if the option to play with the pad was given :rolleyes-new:

The unfortunate truth is that Sega's current output is so sad, not counting the rereleases of older games, that even current Square is better.

I wouldn't say so. How many good games have Square actually produced in the last 12 months? Also how many good games have the published? I'm sure you'll find Sega higher in the ranks than Square for sure.

The problem is that Sega were so good that they had further to fall than many other companies. The same could be said about Konami but nobody does because they were never in the console hardware market. Nintendo is another. They make next to nothing since most of their stuff is 3rd party and what stuff they do make is always bloody Mario this and Mario that. People complain about Sega flogging Sonic yet nobody says anything about Nintendo flogging Mario. Sonic Sega All-star Racing is a fantastic game that blows away the Wii Mario Karts but did anyone care, nope.

Anyway, most people who comment on stuff just go with the flow. Half of them weren't even gaming in the hey day of the 16bit generation when Nintendo, Sega, Konami, Capcom, Square and may others were all pumping out quality goods time after time.

How many good new games have Sega made, not just published, in the last 12 months? The last Yakuza game was more than 12 months ago, so that pretty much only leaves Sonic Generations. It honestly isn't that good, but it's probably better than anything Square has made in the same time period, so I'll give them that. That's one good (well, more like "average") game in the last year.

I agree about Mario, but the thing is that recent Mario games (actual Mario games, not crap like Mario soccer or basketball or tiddlywinks), unlike Sonic games, have actually been good. Sega All-Star Racing may have been good, but it kinda says something about the current state of Sega when, to defend a company that used to be known for its great unique IPs like Panzer Dragoon, Jet Set Radio and Shenmue, you have to bring up a run-of-the-mill kart racer.

Burn-in from a black background? I would expect a background image that doenst move with colors and such would burn-in, but not a static black background?

Ehh, maybe burn-in was the wrong term to use. I don't really know what the proper term is for LCDs (since they technically have nothing to burn in), but I had an issue of black bars from 4:3 viewing damaging my LCD HDTV. I never had any issues with image retention, just the left and right sides being much darker than the center since I mistakenly assumed my LCD was incapable of getting damaged in that way.

A moving background probably does help more, but I can imagine it being very annoying for some people. I think an ideal background would be grey bars, but then again I'm no expert on the subject.

Agreed!!! I'm still not over the Konami logo change!!! The current one looks stupid!!! They don't even make some of their games themselves nowadays :(

My Toshiba TV actually turns off the sides of the screen when displaying a 4:3 image. This is great because you get pure black side bars. It will only do this if being fed a true 4:3 image froma retro console though.

That's what I mean. Square have made none and published pretty much crap. same with Konami. Sega are still making popular arcade gear too but of course only Japan sees that stuff. Sega aren't close to what they were but they're still popping out the odd gen even if they are remakes. I'm sure you were happy when Daytona was released earlier this year.

Personally the bore me to tears but that's just my opinion.

Sonic All=star Racing is far more than a run of the mill kart racer. No other racing game has been played so much on my 360 including the Forza games. Have you ever played the Namco made Mario Kart arcade games? They're fantastic. that's the feeling All-Stars has. Good colourful family fun. As for the demo that was release, yeah that is total shit. The final game is silky smooth.

I agree that Sega need to pull t heir finger out regarding IPs but it's not that simple when they are spread all over the place. A new Panzer dragoon game is actually coming out on the 360 BUT it's F*cking Kinect so it will play like shit if the promo videos are anything to go by. They also haven't called it Panzer dragoon probably due to IP issues but just looking at the style, movement, weapon system and well, everything just screams Panzer dragoon. I pray to God there's a pad controllable option for that game

Anyway, Back on topic. I'm really looking forward to this release. I just wish it was going to be released on actual real media rather than download. If they released it on disc for 2800 yen I'd sure buy it.

Square published Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which is better than anything Sega has made OR published in the last decade.

Of course, in fact when I turned on my 360 for the first time in ages, it was just to play Daytona. That's an exception though, since there hasn't been a truly great home version of Daytona before, and I've been waiting for one to come out for years.

I'll take you word for it and will probably buy it if I can get it for really cheap.

Nights on the saturn already had a wide-screen mode, hopefully they keep that option on for fidelity. Having said that, I really would like to play it with better graphics. It would be nice to see it without that horribly short draw distance.

Still waiting for Guardian Heroes for PSN :-/

    Crimson Dragon.

And it's being made by Yukio Futatsugi, so it'll be more of a Panzer Dragoon game than that abomination Orta.

One little detail nobody here seems to have brought up in this discussion yet is the new "Sega Vintage" label featured at the start of that NiGHTS announcement video... this is supposedly the name for a new range of download only titles from the company's past, mostly created by porting and upscaling the AGES 2500 budget series released exclusively in Japan for the PS2!

From what I've been able to find out so far, plans for a Sega Classics Collection Vol. 2 compilation were abandoned due to poor sales of the first disc. However, following a campaign by members of a NiGHTS fan website - who also happen to work at Sega - this decision was reconsidered, especially following the success of recent efforts such as Daytona USA.

After a few more Dreamcast era games (including Sonic Adventure 2, which was supposedly "in the can" being saved for a rainy day), the intention is to now focus on a slightly earlier period. Of course, until then we're still due a few more 128-bit favourites. Rumours of a Shenmue I & II HD pack also being completehave been circulating long enough for this not to be just a rumour, and I can't imagine the hint regarding Skies Of Arcadia being co-incidental.

Furthermore, there's still the previously confirmed Jet Set Radio left before Sega turns its back on Dreamcast remasters for now. Heading into the future, it's also known that the makers of Nebula and Supermodel have been closely followed in their progress. Maybe a new port of the arcade Virtua Fighter 2 will fix any previous issues present in the last version for PS2 using advances in Model 2 emulation?

Better yet, a source from within Sumo Digital recently claimed they've really been wanting to handle SCUD Race for a possible Model 3 collection, plus it may now finally be realistic to expect truly pixel-perfect treatments of Virtua Fighter 3 and Sega Rally 2. With the licensing for Daytona USA also clearly sorted out, how about the console debut of its sequel as part of the same set, too?

Finally for now, there's growing speculation that Sega's next Saturn era remaster will be Dynamite Deka/Dynamite Deka, though I've also heard that a port of the first Panzer Dragoon may be reaching PSN and XBLA around the same time as Crimson Dragon, making for a perfect complimentary release considering both titles were effectively produced by the same core team of design staff.

P.S. Does anyone yet know if this new version of NiGHTS will include the Christmas edition features or rather basic split-screen mode? While either of these would definitely be welcome, only the first was present in the PS2 version. Whatever the case, this is definitely going to be a day one purchase for me. I'm happy to continue supporting (what's left of) Sega if it carries on making decisions like this, and the increasing number of titles being prepared for the PC is great news.
