Despite his claims, there is a slightly more complete version of "1.5" than Curator's. While the diffference is a few days worth of extra work, the genuine last build is supposedly only lacking FMV sequences and minor bug fixes. In other words, 75-80% meant something close to Biohazard 2 Beta 2. Of course, the reason Curator/Goro Macida is trying his best to arrange a sale here - and don't fool yourself into believing this latest effort didn't somehow involve him, whether directly or not - is because an eBay auction would surely alert the attention of Capcom USA's forum moderator to his cause... again! Besides, can you imagine him getting much sympathy from more trustworthy Resident Evil fan scene contributors such as Wesker, Alzaire or Inflames of the Bioflames community? We know that Inflames only keeps quiet about his source of information to protect them from possible legal repercussions from Capcom. I'm in absolutely no doubt that if a discreet transaction with no chance of a trace back could be guaranteed then we'd see a Bioflames release of 1.5 tomorrow. Until then, hoarding remains a necessary evil (no pun intended).
I actually cant imagine it never being dumped or leaked in some way. Once one version surfaces, others might follow suit.
trade show version? - limited storyline for editorial offices? - i hope the other build have the full story in it. thank you for making hope.
so the selling was real or fake after all? in a video walkthrough from imacwesker he said that the game had all FMV complete the 20-25% that was missing can be possible be minigames and textures, like Anthaemia said a biohazard 2 beta 2. the saturn version would have been 15% complete.
source? i discussed with people on hidden palace a while ago about this and they are not really sure, maybe only the concept was finished for the sega console and nothing playable.
Wasn't it once confirmed that all FMV had yet to be delivered to Capcom when production was restarted on Biohazard 2? If this was the case, there's no way the last known build would have featured such content! Also, the 15% complete quote often used for the Saturn code is not in relation to the "1.5" scenario but the final version. While its lead platform was always the PlayStation, conversion team Nextech was only requested to cease work on a Saturn port when Sega felt a console-exclusive new Resident Evil (which led to Code: Veronica) would be preferable to what must surely have been a considerably scaled-down port for its 32-bit system. From what I've been able to find out, RECV didn't become an active project until mid '98 - long after the 1.5 concept had been abandoned in favour of a more open-ended setting - so maybe we need to look further into this as the dates and figures we've used for years may not be entirely correct. One thing I am sure of is that Nextech certainly wasn't going to be using the 4MB RAM upgrade cartridge, though because of speculation from journalists back in the day this remains a persistent rumour that needs laying to rest sooner rather than later...
resident evil 2 was once confirmed to be on saturn, and was cancelled few days earlier/after code veronica was revealed, i remember the speculation about the 4mb catridge ram.
Capcom definitely planned for Resident Evil 2 to launch simultaneously on both the PlayStation and Saturn because both console's logos feature at the end of a Japanese trailer, but when development was restarted the PS became lead platform (as with the original game), though Nextech were still working on a version for Sega's machine for a while. However, it wasn't the "1.5" scenario that was 15% complete on Saturn when cancelled - it was the final version, and I believe the date of this cancellation would have been somewhere around the summer of 1998. Of course, by the time most journalists had learned of its official cancellation, Nextech had already been ordered to begin production of what ultimately became Code: Veronica for the Dreamcast. Again, I should point out that at no point did either Capcom or Nextech ever confirm that Saturn Biohazard 2 would have used the 4MB RAM upgrade cartridge. In fact, it's likely Capcom was considering multiplatform parity when it decided to lower the polygon count back of enemies in the 1.5 period, as this was supposedly a major problem when porting over the first game. With creatures now using less polygons on the PS as well, it meant the Saturn version would look more similar (apart from the use of "dithered" transparencies, as I'm guessing Capcom/Nextech would have gone down the same route they did previously) and still run at a decent frame rate. The main reason few prefer to focus their attention and desire on the PS code is because this was clearly far more advanced... perhaps even as close to completion as the leaked Beta 2 was to the final retail version. By contrast, it seems nobody has yet to find out exactly what state the Saturn edition of 1.5 was in when the plug was pulled, although I have a feeling it certainly wasn't as low as the 15% we've spent years perhaps wrongly quoting due to a relative lack of information. P.S. Does anyone know when Code: Veronica was unveiled? My guess is the Saturn version of Biohazard 2 must have been cancelled at least a few months before this point for Nextech to have any Dreamcast work to show at the press conference, as I seem to recall footage being quite close to the end product and I doubt they were able to get the whole game done that quickly! Also, is there any other official media from Capcom mentioning a Saturn version of 1.5 other than the preview video I mentioned earlier?
biohazard 2 for saturn was cancelled in october 21, 1998 http://www.gamespot.com/news/2465273.html few days earlier, code veronica was unvelied. http://media.dreamcast.ign.com/media/010/010948/imgs_16.html
So the official cancellation date for the Saturn version of Biohazard 2 was AFTER development had started on Code: Veronica? This is completely different from what I'd been led to believe, and even the announcement is later than I originally thought (then again, Capcom was supporting the Saturn long after most other third party companies had given up so it's not entirely unlikely). Actually, it now seems very possible that Capcom didn't ask Nextech to abandon one Sega project for another, but instead decided it was best to give up on BH2 due to technical problems after all... there's no doubt the creation of this whole series is full of mysteries, rumours and unsolved answers!
maybe biohazard 2 for saturn would be only to japan, since capcom supported the saturn there until 2000, and the console was dead in north america and europe, also ports shouldn´t take too much time, and maybe they were aware that dreamcast would be released in north america and europe only in end 1999, so there was time to develop. also there is not much difference from the final version, and they would show the game again almost 1 year later. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2S-Dwe_fLA at 2:13 you will see the first trailer, by the date of the images by ign, it was on TGS 1998. if i remember there was magazine scans for this version.
Is not a pirate game disc, the resident evil beta 2 was released because someone buy this beta and post in the internet, they are not "pirate game disc".
You tell some fascinating and interesting information. Do you have sources for the 1.5 FMV and the Nextech info, in other words, where did you read all that from? I'd like to know where that information originated from. You seem quite as familiar with RE1.5 as the people at BioFlames. Do you go there by any chance? It would have to be this trailer, correct? But there there wasn't a specific announced date of release for the Saturn port either.
I can't find the source about FMV sequences right now (due to my entire archive recently having to be backed up as the result of computer problems) but here's the quote about Nextech, which comes from a YouTube video comment: "Resident Evil 2 was announced for the Sega Saturn twice, both in its early (1.5) and final representations. The early RE2 (1.5) was just cancelled on par with the also cancelled PS1 version. The final RE2 was re-announced for the Saturn in spring 1998, and was stated to be released in mid/fall 1998. Nextech was developing it (as with the first game), but then Capcom rellocated them to work on RE Code Veronica and all development in the SS RE2 port was halted." Also, on the subject of YouTube that link you metioned was indeed for the specific trailer I referenced in my earlier post. As you can see from the above quote, there was a definite release window planned for the Saturn version of Biohazard 2. Since the first Curator/Goro Macida incident I've spent more time reading messages from others at Bioflames rather than contributing my own, though most of my knowledge - as with other similar topics - is just the result of years collecting such information.
And that YouTube comment probably came from someone who read one of your posts. I sometimes wonder if we have different notions of what counts as a reliable source.
