...is now more difficult. I was going to throw up some items that I wanted to get rid of, and apparently there is a new system where they have to verify you personally. You register with the site and then sometime in the following 4-7 days someone shows up and verifies your ID. When the post office guy comes to me I'll have to show him either my passport or gaijin card. I guess at that point he sends the info back to Yahoo.

Now that's what I call verification...

Wow. I wonder if it's motivated by safety, or just taxes..

You have one option: Your gaijin card. American passport numbers are different format than Japanese, and won't work (trust me). I guess my guy could've been doing it wrong, but I don't think so. He tried inputting it like 5 times.

I think it's a good idea though. There were a couple of high profile incidences on the news of people ripping people off through YJA. They charge for membership... they should be taking steps to protect those people.

Just a minute, I sold an item on Yahoo Auctions two days ago. As long as you have a Yahoo Japan account (Mail account is fine) then you shouldn't have any problems at all.

You have to confirm your address with them somehow. I assume Yahoo BB members will have no issues. Not sure why they didn't do that for you. I've had my account for about 8 years now, and they've just now made me confirm my address when I tried to sell some CDs.

I use OCN internet, not Yahoo BB. Hmm. I'm, also not sure why I never had to confirm. For Yahoo Japan I use the Email service, Auctions (buying and selling) and Yahoo shopping (for the missus). Also have a Yahoo payment account however recently the buggers wouldn't accept my credit card on that even though it had been used countless times before. My account is signed up under my wife's name mind you. Maybe that could have something to do with it?

    Here's the auction I just sold -

Well, it's actually your Yahoo Wallet account that they're verifying, not the auction account. Perhaps she did it already? Maybe it's just white bastards that have to verify? I doubt it, but maybe.

hmm, well if I have to verify anything I'll let you know. I doubt the missus would have done it. I would have heard about it since she wouldn't have a clue.

I opened a new account and I wanted to sell under that, and that's when this came up. I have another account and it wasn't letting me sell because my credit card expired and it wasn't accepting my new credit card for whatever reason (still working through that one...)

They gave me 5 options to verify. One was the gaijin card and one was the passport. I don't remember the other 3. But I thought it was strange that they'd offer a gaijin card since 99% of Japan doesn't have one. Maybe it was because I was using a foreign based credit card? Maybe it's something only gaijin have to do?

Or maybe it's something with new accounts, and you're grandfathered in with your old account?

Or maybe Yahoo just doesn't like me?

I wonder if it's b/c you were registered w/ a foreign-issued card? These are traditionally "scarier" cards in the eyes of Japanese retailers, and probably easier to fake the billing address. I'm pretty sure my account used such a card... although I'd have to check.

I have no idea what that links too. can't see it here in work. But hey, the whole idea of buying the limited edition of last Hope was to own it however it took that long that I ended up buying the normal one then flogging the Special Edition

It could be guys. I'm using Japanese credit cards (JAL Visa card) and have yet not had a problem. Try using a Japanese credit card if you have one.

I think my latest card is a Japanese JAL one... it's the only one of mine that's not expired in the last year or so, and I don't recall updating it.

Well this is the screen showing the process. This is the screen on my main account where it's not accepting a new credit card from me which is step 4 (Yahoo Premium account). That's what I'm trying to work through now. On my other account step 4 was listed as complete since I had my credit card registered there, so I went on to step 5 which was the verification process.

Does the kanji reference something about the verification process, possibly that there are different kinds of verification for different kinds of people? It looks more like it wants to verify my address, not me personally. If that's the case then it should be the same for everyone in Japan.

PS....this is all new to me. Before I was selling without any problems. I think this was triggered by my credit card in my Premium account expiring. I only found out about the verification process when I got through on a new account. I'm wondering if that's the difference....you're allowed to stay if you're already here but if you card laspses or if you're creating a new account you have to go through this new process.

Looks like the first kanji talks about an address, the second talks about a name (in Step 5)?

Eric, Yahoo have been a pain in the arse with my credit card for about 1 month now. At one time it was fine then all of a sudden I tried to pay a seller with Kantan Yahoo Payment when I got "This card is not valid" Bollocks I thought. So I re-entered all my card details only to have Yahoo tell me that the card information doesn't match that which DC card have on file. No matter how many times I tried it wouldn't work. So I called DC card and told them of my problem. they then asked me to mail them the info I was telling Yahoo auctions. DC card later replied saying that all my information was correct.

If you ask me, Yahoo have buggered up their credit card system or they are really clamping down. The odd thing is that I can still bit and pay via banks as well as sell stuff. The only thing I can't use is the Kantan Yahoo payment via credit card.

By the way, if you keep entering the so called wrong information, Yahoo will freeze your account which will result in the following page.

As you can see, that's mine. I had to mail them telling them that their system was messed up. They opened the account saying that it should now be fine. Needless to say it's now in the same state again. I gave up!

Oh I've seen that page...twice now...heh. What strange is that I tried using the same credit card that works on my other account but it failed to pass. I chose the option to link it to a bank account, set up the necessary stuff on Japan Net Bank, then it wouldn't allow me to link my JNB account with my screen name. It just told me that the branch name wasn't correct, (the one I was using for JNB), but I know that it is correct. The resulted in the second lockout that I'm working through.

Something's screwy with the system if you ask me...
