Yep, that's just what they told me. "Credit card name is wrong" "card number is wrong" "no such bank account" etc... Their system is a mess for sure !

"name is wrong" is very common... not just in credit cards. You two probably already know this. No only is there romaji or katakana, but there's also firstname-lastname or lastname-firstname. If you want to do anything official, it has to be exactly, and there's no real standard way to do whitey names.

 

Tell me about it. Just try to sign up to Club Nintendo ! They insist EVERYTHING must be in Japanese plus you can't even use katakana for names ! This ends up with me being called すみす　まあく　　and　　すみす　まく (I have two accounts) because I can't use the extension line (or what ever you call it in English) between マ　＆　ク

Japanese sites are the terrible for signing up to. Why on earth can't they get of their arse and make a standard format? half size number here, full size numbers there, kana here but oh no can't use katakana on this page even though you could on the last. :banghead:

One that's not gaijin-specific:
Seems that just about every bank in Japan requires the name registered to be in katakana...except for Ebank. Of course, sending from Japan Net you can only input katakana in the name field. :/
