basicly im fucked. i cant get out of this strange sleeping patten. i keep waking up for no apparent reason at 5-7PM and going to bed around 4-6am and i cant break it ive had people try getting me up alarms but nothing seems to work...
I don't know how you feel about cannabis, but some times smoking a joint can help you sleep better. And yes I am of course talking about smoking it the "Danish" way, where you roast the tobacco, before you roll the joint while mixing it up with the cannabis. But that is just one way of handling it. Cause you could always take a pill, when in fact most "sleeping pills" are psychotropic medicine of some kind.
Use any combination of the following, but a and b should be done anyway: a) Start getting a moderate amount of exercise. Play sport, do Couch to 5K, go make your Grandma a nice garden pond. b) Fix your diet and stop eating so much sugar and empty carbs. Reduce caffeine intake, stop drinking soda/soft drink, potato chips, etc. Start eating fruit and vegetables. Lean meats. Fish. Stop being a lazy shit and cook, if you don't know how then learn, it's easy and everyone should have 10 dishes that they are pro at cooking to impress the ladies. c) If you get up at 5pm, stay awake until 8pm the next day and then go to sleep. Get out of bed before 8am the next day and go to sleep 16 hours later. Repeat. d) Grow up and get up when your alarm goes off, regardless of how much sleep you have had. If you need to get up 2 hours earlier every day to fix your sleep pattern over a period of days then do this. Yeah, it may sound a bit harsh but all you need to do is take responsibility for the issue and you will find that you can fix it in no time at all. Obviously I have no idea of your actual circumstances and these are just general recommendations.
It's called the first year of uni. You'll get over it. I remember not sleeping for nearly a week. Was close to death. My cure was to get a national express coach from Bournemouth to Newcastle to see family, 13 hours on one of those bad boys will send anyone to sleep as long as you don't mind the smell of piss too much.
How could you sleep on public transport knowing somebody could do something to you while you're asleep?
Yeah, welcome to university. I didn't have these issues because my classes always start at 9 and end in the evening (with long breaks inbetween), but others who decided to skip pretty much everything ended up with a totally messed up daily routine. By december, a friend was always going to bed at 12 (at noon) and he got up at 10-11pm. It sucked because he always had to order from Domino's because everything else is closed until 7:30
Try a cup of hot tea, if that doesn't work exercise till your body gives. I always sleep my best when I am worn out. Still on hiatus.
I am in the same sleep pattern. Will change next year because I start UNI. My body is going to kill itself. I also think I have low blood pressure with iron defency. Not a good mix.
I have had an iron deficiency with black under my eyes doctor said it was from the way I cook i.e I use a lot of veggies and fruit and use meat to add flavor. Its a good way to maintain a healthy weight ,but apparently my body needs more iron than the average person. So I said how about I take iron pills and he said the body likes to consume iron from meat and usually doesn't know how to deal with iron from tablets. So basically I eat more fish (usually brim, crappy and catfish I have caught whilst fishing) and a 6 oz steak Sundays.
Have you tried not doing anything an hour before going to bed? I usually go to bed straight after playing a game and usually I'm awake all night. If I don't do much or anything an hour before I go to bed, I sleep a lot better. I've got a bad sleeping pattern as well, I do drink a lot of Pepsi so the caffeine doesn't help.
I suggest staying up all night, getting some melatonin (a natural sleep inducer, can be found at any pharmacy, or alternatively you can try the smart drink Neuro Sleep, which contains melatonin and works wonders for me), and taking it right before going to bed. The melatonin, taken as a regimin (I can't spell), for a few days will re-set your circadian clock. Also, sleep with the window open, since your circadian clock works off of sunlight (basically, when it's dark, your body naturally produces melatonin). Stay near an open window in sunlight (or lack there of) as much as possible during the days you're resetting the schedule, and use artificial lights sparingly. This works wonders for me keeping my sleep schedule (I'm on break right now, hence being up so late). cheers, -Mercury
thanks for all the advice. im still up so i made it through the night on about my 5th cup of coffee XD bed time is set for 8pm tonight and i have given my family strick instructions to not let me sleep past 10am so hopefully i should be sorted now
To improve quality of sleep, remove all electronics from your bedroom, if possible. Also, keep it as dark as possible. Try taking zinc as a supplement, or melatonin. And like mentioned already in this thread, get out of bed when your alarm goes.
wish i could remove electronics from my bedroom. i live in a bedsit most of the year. its pretty dark in here. might give the suppliments a try also im still up only like 7 hours till i can sleep
I'm really not trying to start a flame war with my second post, but zinc has never been established to do anything as far as I know. It has been claimed to do many things from helping with sleep to helping cure the common cold. I suggest that OP either does not buy zinc, or if they do, buy it alongside melatonin, which actually has established effects. Rawit: I would be interested to see any studies showing the effectiveness of zinc as a sleep aid/sleep schedule influence. again, not trying to start a fight here.
