Tl;Dr: How to get dashboard option in xshell to run UnleashX and can I get xshell to see F partition? Right so I have a 1.0 Xbox that I softmodded a few years ago and even upgraded the HDD to a 120GB( hotswap iz tricky BTW) Anywhoo! I use PBL to run a debug bios and I want the retail dash option to take me to UnleashX instead of the (broken) retail dash. Yea the retail dash is broken for some reason, I assume the softmod did that. For anyone wondering, My current setup has UnleashX load on boot with a debug option in its menu(using a vista theme iirc) but I plan on adding RAM to this system and flashing a retail compatible debug bios to the TSOP to use it as my debug kit till I can get hands on a real one. But this wont happen till I get that extra RAM thus PBL for now. Also I just like dev stuff :3 Oh! and is there anyway to get xshell to look at the F partition? I use xbe shortcuts to run my games from xshell but if there is a way to get it to see my games directly then that would be nice.
I havent seen any way of remapping XShell. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible honestly, but I never wasted time looking into it. You could setup one of the XBE shortcuts and overwrite xboxdash.xbe. Havent done it, but I dont see why it wouldnt work on a modded console. Actual debug console would be a bit trickier since I dont like to use HackDevkitBios since it is crap. Either way, with a modded Xbox, most people seem to have to boot certain apps before the full 128mb of RAM is available anyway. I set my retail modded to boot into XBMC, that does the trick well.
Right so I made the shortcut and named it xboxdash.xbe but now im just getting error 13 which is something wrong with the dash so I guess I can't replace it, Maybe the softmod edited the dash xbe to point to the modded dash location? That might be why it's broken normally? which in my case is e:\ROOT\ BTW. Now the system does boot from disk so maybe I can run Hexins or something? BTW since I plan on flashing "complex_4627debug.bin" would the extra RAM not be initialized on boot? Oh and is there any newer debug based BIOS?
Strange that it didnt work. I would of course make sure you have clock protection on too. Should be able to just FTP in and fix it, or use Xbox Neighborhood and do it that way. I would use one of those disks to fix your Xbox Dashboard first. You could just put UnleashX in your devkit folder and call it a day there, pretend the Xbox Dash function isnt there. And for some reason, it isn't properly started with the debug bios that are out there. So just have it start an app with 128mb support like XBMC first. I really only use XShell on my normal debug kits.
The xboxdash.xbe that is on a softmod retail usually is a forwarding xbe to link it to the E drive and the "dashboard" folder. What ever xbe you have in there will be the booting dashboard, which is why the retail dashboard is gone and when in xshell it hangs at the xbox screen when you try and get to the retail dashboard. When you replace that xboxdash.xbe the console 13s because it's not going to the correct path of E/dashboard/default.xbe. I guess you can always set your booting dashboard to the debug bios and just have your retail dashboard and UnleashX dash under E/devkit/apps and use the retail dash that way. Maybe I'm lost on what you're trying to do....
I have the PBL xbe as my booting dash which works fine but since I don't like useless options I really wanted to get the Xbox Dashboard option in xshell to boot UnleashX so as borman suggested I made a shortcut xbe and replaced the “xboxdash.xbe”, This was a bad idea as now it E13s and I don't have any blank DVD-Rs I'll buy some soon enough tho.
I just dont get why the retail dash is completely broken, it shouldn't have been like that in the first place.
See that's also something that doesn't make sense to me, Even after a softmod shouldn't the retail dash still be available? Maybe it's the one I used? I did a hotswap with NDURE something years ago.
Everytime I have done it, which is only a few, it remains mostly untouched. I was under the impression that it was just a forwarding link like XS said anyway, so what it boots isn't really a big deal. You can always launch the softmod exploit and reload everything through that since you can still boot from a disk.
Fate, do you still have ftp possibility on your kit? I have a set up with E and C files I can send you that could simplify your issue. Every softmod I've done and ran xshell on, the xboxdash.xbe is broken when running from the xshell. Should just boot the booting default.xbe, but it just doesnt. And from what I've found is if you change the xboxdash.xbe to anything the xshell fails to launch and sometimes causes an array of errors on the console. I'm actually currently working on original xbox stuff with chihiro but I can see what I can find about this conundrum.
I don't thik I have FTP access since I can't get into any kind of dash so I'll need to wait till I get DVD-Rs later today or tomorrow to fix it.I'll send a PM your way about those files tho.
