Yo! I've got a question regarding the SFC system:

1- Is there any way to mod an US cart, for eg. FF3, and replace it's board to a JP FF6 cart? I know there are adapters to allow us break the region protections, and I also have one. However I would like to know if we really could fit its content into a sfm cart.

    Thanks

Why would you ruin a cart like this? Just have an eprom made and do it that way so that you're modding only one cart....

 what's an eprom? Do ya mean I can flash the original FF cart? I suppose I need certain tools that would be expensive?
Just to make sure you understand my idea:

I want this, to be in english, with this JP case.

I heard about flash carts and stuff. I must say I just buy legit SFC carts. All I wanted was to mod some of them to apply English .ips patches.

Edit: Maybe this should be moved to the Mods forum? Sorry about that.

You can switch the PCBs, no problem.

So both are same size, meaning that only the plastic case is different right?

    Thanks a lot!

    Oh shit, this is awesome!

What about the flash thing? Is it possible to flash original carts and .ips patch them? How?

    Woot, thanks!
This is the best idea. So basically I buy an eprom thingy for 5 euros, and then how do I copy the tranlated rom into the cart? I-m just asking in the wild. I better make some research first! Anyways, any tuts or anything you might know would come in handy!

You'll need an programmer and they're not cheap, the cost doesn't really come from the EPROMs themselves.

If you pay for the eproms and shipping, I'll program them for you no charge. You'll still need a desoldering iron, a soldering iron, some wire, and solder. You can get a cheap soldering and desoldering iron from Radio Shack for about $15 each. So really for just one game, it's probably not worth getting into it for yourself.

I don't think I've tried any of the FF6 english patches on a real snes, there is no guaruntee that they'll work in english. SNES games are more likely than a nes game to work on real hardware.

    hey folsk :)

I>ve a question regarding "building ya own snes cartridge".

well I've found the following game some days ago:

its the BS Zelda for the satellaview... but packed into a PAL cartridge o0'' I know this must be a fake copy.

I've the rom on my computer (the patched one with english translation etc...). now I want to convert this rom into a cartridge. the size of the rom file is 1 Mega Byte. how do I know which EPROMs and how many I need? I think my uncle got such a EPROM writer...

before I spend so much money for a cheap copy I want to build it my self ^^

Remember that games were measured in megabits and so are eproms. A 27C801 or 27c800 are both 8 megabit eproms which is 1 megabyte. So you would need one eprom for a 1 megabyte game.

And remember a lot of romhacks don't work on real hardware.
This might be the case with BS Zelda, which was mad for Sattelaview (= different registers, etc..)

I've finished the game with the BSNES emulator. some people say if the game works with this emulator it will work on a real hardware too. Told me that guy from snesdev.romhack.de ^^

Except that bsnes emulates the sattelaview.
You should try on a tototek, or a swc/SF7/etc..

This cart just sold on eBay for $235.

Would be worth getting a few bits and making a few of these.
