i was gonna say either way it was ripped off... i don't really remember what we were talking about so i'll just keep the sexual jokes coming oh: lookout!). ong: .
I think this thread will inspire many homosexuals to get into game development, it's a service really.
U64 SGI Board Well I do have two of these boards, one is in my last remaining Indy and the other is loose and sitting on a shelf. I would be willing to part with it, if someone really had an Indy and wanted to hack around with it. --Selgus
Yes, well I pulled it from the my Indy it was still operational, but that was over 10 years ago. I just wondered if there was some hacker out there that could make use of the board, as I don't believe too many people have an Indy laying around. I got a few PM's about this so far, so let me clarify-- I am not looking to make money off of this, but if someone already had the means to make good use of the U64 board. I know a lot of people like to collect old dev hardware, but my query was more for someone like myself, that enjoys actually using said hardware. :icon_bigg --Selgus
I don't own an SGI indy unfortunately and in all honesty I d like to own the board as a piece of history until I settle somewhere. With regard to your wish, I know Kammedo uses his n64 dev stuff pursuant to an upcomming project but I m not sure if he can/is willing to retrofit a cart-slot. Calpis should be able to do that although I m not sure he'd be interested. Sorry if I m being rude, but how much would you want to part with the U64 board? I m an avid N64/64DD supporter as you might know and I m always trying to learn and experience more and more about it. We can discuss furthermore about my credentials if you're interested to know more -wouldn't like to seem to brag publicly or disclose any information that would be inappropriate.
Indy's are cheap to get off ebay. The only rip-off is the shipping, SGI iron is heavy! Also, most of modern LCD displays support VSYNC on green, so it's a matter of getting the corect version of IRIX (5.3 If i remember right) and some PS2 keyboard and you are ready to go. EDIT : you also need a PC with Linux installed to net-boot the IRIX installation CD, OR a Indy with IRIX installed, OR an external SCSI CDROM drive. Sorry, but I think the project of modding a u64 dev board to fit a cart on it, although being possible, is a heresy. Why ruin such a beautiful piece of history? Anyhoo, anybody is free to do what he wants, so if you really would like it, I think it wouldn't even be that difficult..
Mmm, don't think I agree with doing the mod - fortunately, I don't think anyone here will, either!! Hell, I'd like the board just for having the board and using it for its intended purpose, not to mod it. I can't afford to be splurging right now, though.
I wasn't thinking about anyone doing a mod to the board, as that would really take some deep understanding of the GIO card design and how the interface works on the SGI. My whole intent here was to give the board a "good home" with someone whom would get use out of it. It does me no good to sit on my shelf, and I already have another that I can use, if I do get the urge one day to boot up my SGI. To make good use of it, you would need an Indy, with a certain revision video card (there are some known compatibility issues with some video cards), IRIX 4.3 with SGI's development environment CDs, and then the U64 SDK/drivers. Now I am sure there are plenty of people whom would just be happy owning the board, as one put it, a piece of Nintendo history, but being a developer/programmer/etc. having someone be able to develop something cool would be my first choice. Maybe if ASSEMbler wanted to have some kind of contest on his site, I could donate the U64 board as one of the prizes. --Selgus
Well, what I can say on the positive side is that all Barc0de has ever wanted is a U64 board. He has not much experience with programming, but he has been very active on the 64dd side of things, and has been trying to get information on both n64 and 64dd. I think all he needs is a way to start. I think he would be happy with one
I m thankful for your kind words of appreciation my Italian brother :redface: I d love to have the board if you're willing to part with it.
Yeah, Well not too much - I added all missing pieces to the broken one (it was missing some capacitors) but it still doesnt seem to work correctly .
What is the latest version of Irix that will run the dev board and the sgi/nintendo dev tools ? I'd like to get the latest version of Irix possible, but I don't think this stuff will work on 6.x ... or will it ? Will it run all the way up to the last/latest versions of 5.x ?
