Whoever's still looking forward to Shenmue 3, don't watch the latest trailer, at least somewhere near the end of the video for Shenmue Online. There's a very *huge* possible spoiler for what seems likely to happen in Shenmue 3, if it ever comes out.
Now that most fans of the series have conceded defeat and accepted that Yu Suzuki will probably never get to finish Shenmue faithfully to his original vision, they're either looking for any remaining teaser data in the first two Dreamcast games or waiting to see if the original Saturn version ever leaks. If anything, these same people are going to want to blow open Shenmue Online for anything leftover from its own prototype stage to see if they can find anything linked to the mythical Shenmue III. I can feel their pain, but not enough to resort to such desperate measures - I'll probably just end up buying whatever (if anything) that we get over here and praying that enough units get sold to justify a proper sequel. However, if the rumour is true and AM2 already has a standalone game of the entire Shenmue saga awaiting a next-gen home then I'd rather have that and not bother with stop gap titles like Online.
From the Shenmue forum, here's the direct link to the new hi-res video (Shenmue 3 spoiler warning!) http://www.4gamer.net/jump.php?http...amer/movie2/chinajoy2006/cj2006_shenmu_hi.zip Great video but wished it was for Shenmue 3
Perhaps they are awaiting the exclusivity rights to expire with Microsoft. Presumably something was signed with them when Shenmue 2 was released on the XBox but it's not financially viable to continue to develop the series on that format due to its low market in Japan. Maybe a continuation will occur on the PS3 if that takes off.
Hmm, but how are some people overseas going to pay for it? Bumbling through Chinese and Korean websites just so you can enter your credit card? Eh...
You wont... most korean games require like this sorta insurance number to register to play the games. I dont know what sega will do but i think it will be hard to get an account.
I can't speak for Korean games, but Japanese games aren't too hard to play online. Sega's recent online games require a Japaense CC, or NET Cash. Just pay off a member living in Japan to buy you 10,000 yen worth at Family Mart -- that'll last about 8 months.
