This sucks. I buy stuff from Japan all the time. I had planned on getting a Flame Meister (see my avatar) when it comes out. I guess that's not gonna happen now, considering that it's definitely over 16oz. Balls.

It's not a situation where the US is refusing all packages from Japan. It's a situation where Japan Post is refusing to accept packages from certain senders. If a company is doing a lot of shipping then it's almost guaranteed that they are on contract with the post office so they can continue to send to the US. It's the guys who do not have a contract with Japan Post who can't send packages. So you can still get what you want, you just have to find the right Seller.

Since my eBay account is registered in Japan I got an email from eBay that gave the link to a company in Japan that can forward packages for you. I can't even imagine the explosion in business they are about to get....

Not that anyone cares (except for maybe GP who specifically asked for "Euro people", whether Australia can be considered "Euro" is another story but I digress) but it has just come to my attention some new (and relatively late) developments from my country regarding the US shipments issue. No official online press release yet so I'll have to type it manually:

The $9 surcharge is not quite as drastic as Japan Post's residential-customer complete ban on anything over 453 grams, but it still sucks.

Speaking of Japan Post, here is a summary of what is and isn't allowed under the new policy:

    http://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/no_delivery_en.html

As for the duration of the new policies (in Japan and/or elsewhere), information is scant in this regard. The only thing I could find was:

    http://mainichi.jp/select/world/news/20101113ddm008030027000c.html

i.e. This 453 grams shipping restriction is expected to be in place for at least one month.

In any case, it is now clear (if it wasn't before) who is responsible for America's situation: America, and/or its government, and/or the terrists. The post offices of the world are simply trying to meet the US's demands in their own way.

Basically Japan Post simply didn't want to put these counter measures in... so they just blocked everything. Apparently crew on boats are expendable but not airplanes.

It was quite clear. At least that's what Japan Post told me.

No, but our company has an account with Japan Post. Those with accounts are not affected.

If a bomb went off in the cargo hold of a plane it would probably do quite a bit of damage when the plane crashes somewhere.

Bomb going off in a 40ft container on a boat would probably damage a lot of mail and make a mess of the container but it probably wouldn't sink the boat nor would it likely cost any lives.

And this bomb threat is how much more real now than a month ago?

Also, I make sure all my boat parcels are designated to ride up in the front w/ the Captain. So, so much for your theory.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but everyone can still use UPS, FedEx, DHL, or whatever Japan has that is similar.
