Yes it was stupid and naive on my side, also because I didn't really know how paypal works with the whole refunding thing. I usually try to avoid paypal as I think they are greedy criminals, its like the mafia telling you to pay protection money to make business in some street or something .. the street in this case is internet Like I said I learned alot from this, so it was worth losing some bucks on to prevent me on losing much more in the future.
I thought PAYPAL wouldn`t refund your money if it was a transaction outside of EBAY as I got fleeced for that a year or three ago IMHO, if the address was correct and can be proved then the buyer should either pay the extra postage fees or have a refund minus the original postage fees That would be the decent thing to do Refunds on purchases via the net.......surely this is companies & from a web site rather than just via blog/newsgroups etc?
It wasn't a refund from paypal, i just sent him 110 manually as a refund, and he claimed his original 120 back saying it never arrived, not sure if it was different in the past im not a big paypal user. That whole sending back money back in 7 days crap is nice when you buy stuff from a online shop but not for private second hand deals plus online business usually also charge you the shipping costs when returning an item.
would any online shop resend it and pay for shipping again just like that? what if the product is worth 20 euro, should it be given for free then? the tracking information says that he actually received the package, something you didn't know, what am i to think? maybe he decided not to take it at the last minute and told the postman to send it back? a mate of mine bought something on ebay, the ebay shop sent him the wrong item, he escalated the problem as they didnt want to pay for shipping to replace the item and paypal actually told him to pay the shipping to return the item and get a refund excluding the shipping to him and back.. anyway what it comes down to when dealing between private individual persons (i am not a business not even close to it) is that both parties should be responsible for the transaction and this is my personal view as paypal actually told me i didnt need to refund the shipping at all. I didn't want to start a flame war, i didn't mention the buyers name he choose to identify himself. I was only asking for advice in this situation.
I think you handled the situation really well Port187. You were pretty generous with him (more generous than most would be) and Kaori was being difficult. I don't understand why he would pay for an item, have it shipped, change his mind, then ask for a refund. I'm sorry but the only place where you can pull off shenanigans like that is your local Wal*Mart.
I did not intend for you to feel offended, but that was my opinion. When our customers don't receive an item, CS folks send another. IMO, if you wish to sell products online then shipping is part of your transaction. If the shipping fails, then it's the luck of the draw. Some people will argue for the buyer, some for the shipper. As it turns out, the buyer was a jackass. Unfortunately that is also a risk
Dont worry I was not offended just defending my opinion. I understand the buyers point of view off course, but I just think when both party's are dealing privately the costs should be devided when encountering problems with shipping, especially in this weird case. So instead of argueing about who is to blame, buyer or seller just go fifty fifty on it.. sadly this time going 50/50 ment alot more argue But as you say if the buyer doesn't receive it at all, it would be another matter and a full refund would be the the way as the insurance will cover it anyway as the total amount received is the value you show.
Your too nice Considering how much of a jerk this guy sounds like, I would have refused any additional shipment without payment and withdrawn all avaliable Paypal funds to prevent chargeback. If he doesn't want to pay to have his items shipped, too bad. Get a better shipping location. Or better yet, if his shipping location is unverified, refuse to ship unless he gets verified. Or even better still, if you have proof you shipped out, just tell PayPal it was shipped, show them a copy of the recipt to demonstrate it matches to what he has on his account, then wash your hands off from this matter.
One thing I learn from using eBay/Paypal is this: always keep my Paypal at zero balance & any money comes in should be transferred out ASAP. On the topic I think Port187 has been way too nice~ Should be more strict to teach the guy the lesson.
Dj898 is right! PayPal acts like a bank, but isn't regulated like one. So they can barge into your account like the queen of England and there's nothing you can do about it.
You can cancel your account. You sign an agreement with them, it can be revoked at any time. No one is forcing anyone to use their service.
except it's hassle to resign with them every time you need to use them. By leaving the balance zero I don't have to worry and soon as I make the transaction I remove/delete any details linking to my bank account and etc. So far it works fine for me...
