I was at a Con yesterday and picked up Muchi-Muchi Pork and being a Cave Shmup I'm expecting it to be really hard even on easy settings but alas it isn't. Once you get fully powered up nothing is getting past you.

So is it just me or is this game REALLY easy?

It's probably only easy as long as you're playing it on easy. -_-

Congrats to your purchase though, MMP is a really underrated gem of the Cave lineup. It is actually not easy but pretty damn hard. Complete it on default (normal) difficulty and we'll talk again. I recommend playing the special modes, namely Manpuku (hold up (stick) in the main menu and press start) and Harahara (hold down (stick) in the main menu and press start).

What system did you get it on?

That's awesome news about Guwange...and I had no idea Death Smiles was being released in the US, although I'm sure they're just gonna region lock it.

360...I couldn't find any info about it then I realized..that's not the game it's Mushihime-sama Futari I got not Muchi Muchi Pork For some reason I thought it was Muchi Muchi Pork. Blame my Japanese Illiteracy.

I'm going to try to grab Raiden IV and Deathsmiles later today. I'm in a shmupping mood.

Edit- I have to play Mushihime-sama Futari on ultra to get any kind of work out.

Damn...I was wondering about that, and hoping that Muchi Muchi Pork had actually gotten a console release at some point.

Didn't you wonder where all the pigs have gone?

I was actually wondering why you as an emulator-fan "just picked up" this 800$ PCB. Mushi Futari is a really awesome shooter and you'll have a lot of fun with that one too (probably even more since it's way more accessible).

    Achievements: Just google it
Black Label: You can download it from the XBLA marketplace for 1200 MS points

I thought it was just a name really. I am enjoying it and all the modes. I'm a huge Cave fan so it's nice I finally actually bought something of theirs I wish they had had ESPGlaudula II but they didn't. They had Deathsmiles II but that's Region Locked.

There's so many versions of Mushihime-sama Futari it's pretty sick. "Easy" (I think you mean Original) in 1.5 can be played for survival and isn't too hard. Even a scrub can get a 1CC as long as he puts some practice in. God mode in Black Label also maybe a bit easier if you have a shitty score and bomb.

MMP, which is a dope game (don't hold your breath for a port) might even be a bit easier. Once you learn how to score you can get extends quite easily, And Rafute (the yellow one) rips the shit out of all the bosses.

If Guwange is getting a 360 release then I'd say it's open Season on their back Catalog.

They've openly said that they're doing 1 more package-port (probably Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu), and one other XBLA-only game (if memory serves) after Guwange and that's it: only new stuff from then on out. They have to pay someone else for all of their old games. They don't have the publishing rights to any of them, although they apparently have a good working relationship w/ Atlus since they handle Shin Megaten Online.

    6 companies publish for them.

if Mushihime-sama Futari was published by AMI and that got a release then Muchi Muchi Pork might have one along with the tons of other games published by AMI.

Capcom aren't Dicks so we have a chance of seeing Progear. I don't know about DoDonPachi II

You have it very backwards, although if you're not familiar it's confusing.

The publishing rights of the 3 Atlus games: Donpachi, Dodonpachi, and and Guwnage are owned by Atlus. Cave has to pay for them.

For the 1 Video System game (Dangun Feveron) who the fuck knows but it's likely a similar story to Atlus, and an identical one to MMP (in that we won't get a port).

For Progear, it is owned by Capcom. It was more or less ordered by Capcom. They had limited, but some creative control over the game. They even sat on the finished product for almost a year before releasing it. There has been zero Progear merchandise reprinted, so it's seemingly unlikely that they would go after publishing rights, but who knows. I doubt Capcom will do more than put it out on the PSP.

Everything after that: Dodonpachi Daioujou, Ketsui, ESPGaluda, Mushihime-sama, ESPGaluda II, Mushihime-sama Futari, Ibara, Death Smiles, Muchi Muchi Pork, Pink Swets, DDP DFK, the black labels, and anything else I'm forgetting, while published by AMI, have their rights still retained by Cave. They basically gave AMI the arcade publishing rights... nothing more. As such, none of those games have AMI written anywhere in their ports. AMI went titsup btw.

However, the Yagawa games (Ibara, Muchi Muchi Pork, Pink Sweets) were all text-book commercial failures. You will not see ports of these any time soon, if ever, as per Cave in a very Japanese manner of speaking.

For what it's worth, none of the companies that have the publishing rights (Atlus, Video System, and Capcom) have made a peep about making ports of those games. Guwange is the first, and the rights were reattained by Cave (or it's just licensed).

I was going by Wikipedia and what you had down as Yagwa games were listed under AMI.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_%28company%29

So that's where I got confused.

Cave is my favorite of all the Shmup makers But I never do find much info about them anywhere and it is nice to see them finally breaking into the semi mainstream.'

on an unrelated note but sort of, has anyone played or picked up Shoot 1 Up on XBOX Indie games? It's a Fantastic shooter where you can control up to 30 ships at once. It's one of the best playing and unique shooters I've ever played

Yes... he joined Cave after they started using AMI as a publisher. Yagawa is a developer (a la Battle Garegga) and has overseen three spiritual sequels of Garegga... all of which bombed (pun intended).

Various interviews over the last 12 years or so yield the most interesting information, I've found.

    From the Wiki
Their next game, a "1950's hardcore mecha hozirontal shooter" goes on loke test soon (this month). Everyone's curious to see what hardware it will be one, since they recently announced they won't be self-publishing any more games a la Death Smiles II... the only one to use PC-based hardware.

EDIT: Dodnpachi II is imply a licensed game. Cave had nothing to do w/ it other than whoring out the IP.

Thankfully cave have plastic beads to keep them afloat...

On a serious note, i am sure i read somewhere that the arcade side of the company is only kept going as the directors love shoot em up games and the losses are covered by companies like Beadsmania, Half note jazz and many other companies that have nothing to do with gaming...

I still have to buy that Futari port... just couldn't be bothered to spend money on it yet because I've already played that game for so many hours on several occasions - and I find the Black Label-version much better than 1.5, but my Xbox isn't connected to the web. >_>
