Under 10 continues is my average. Once or twice I managed to clear Normal Mode Ikaruga in 5 credits but it was hard and it wasn't a 100% clear I never can beat that final boss (the one you have to keep flipping for) and 5 or less seems to be about all it takes for me to clear Shikigami No Shiro 2 (but that game is way too easy) I've yet to 1cc anything

Futari Black Label's Original Mode is pretty much the easiest Cave 1cc you can get. Nothing's more forgiving, not even Espgaluda. I'm only talking about survival though, scoring is insanely hard in BL Original. I got my Original 1cc the second time I'd ever played it, another one at the shmup meet got it on his first try. It's really easy, 1.5 Original mode is another story though..

If you want to get started on cave 1ccs, I would recommend Espgaluda and DoDonPachi. Both are pretty easy to clear if you play on plain survival.

Both are nice. The arcade version (pretty much 1:1 PlayStation port) has detailed explosion bitmaps that the Saturn is lacking, but the latter has an extra entrance level featuring boring and pointless enemy placement but nice backgrounds. It's also only half as expensive as the PSX version.

Type-C (spreadshot, slow ship) is usually the best, most of the players also use Shot-config that focuses on a strong spreadshot and weak laser. I like to choose Type-A (fast & straight shot) with Laser-config (strong laser), but it also took me quite a bit longer to clear it.

Locating it isn't difficult at all. Just browse ebay and boards like shmups.com. Shooters like Espgaluda and DDP are always available, only varying in price and condition.

Sounds like you read that on Kotaku. They post their records every year. The arcade business makes money... just the least of the 3 departments.

NTSC-J swears that this port is over-rated, and he's a huge DDP fan. He claims the chain breaks in places it won't on the PCB. So... yeah, that kinda kills it.
