Somehow in 45 days I gained nearly 20 pounds. I don't eat fast food or crap food. I've been sleeping a lot due to back problems, but I've never gained that much weight. A bit scared to be honest.
Were you physically active any point in the near past? I used to work out a lot and due to circumstances and injuries in life I had to stop sometime earlier this year and I don't over eat much nor eat a ton of bad food but i've gained a bunch of fat weight regardless, like 20+lbs worth. So that could be one explanation.
Yeah I had to stop doing pretty much everything due to the back. This is so depressing, 20 lb is going to take forever to lose.
@ Assembler I'd say due to your back problems and also due to being ether nearly 30 or over 30, I've seen your vids and would guess you're between 27 and 35 years old. No idea which. Your body's metabolism slows down to a crawl meaning you absorb pretty much every shred of food and store it somewhere in your body leading to weight gain, which is common in that age group. If you were active and didn't put this kind of weight on normally then I would suggest this is the reason why. When your younger, food tends to burn straight through and not affect your weight, similar to those who smoke or do cocaine or take similar stimulants on the regular. You probably knew this but I say this for the benefit of anyone reading this unwise to this info. Obviously those on powerful stimulants like coke or Ritalin or even Nicotine would see weight gain in a much steadier fashion, though the problem with drug taking being obvious side effects like mental instability and dependency. What I'm trying to say, this is normal for someone your age - Assuming I've got your age something like correct. I myself am approaching this age and have noticed the changes/concessions I have to make in order to maintain my weight. A load of my mates are having to take measures to stop them from becoming tubby bastards, and you wouldn't believe the speed they're now putting on weight! (approaching 30yrs old)
This started happening to me about 2 years ago and now my body is regaining some normalcy. I started freaking out but my gf loved it. She said I was turning into a man. Anyway, I can't fit into any of the clothes I purchased over two years ago and can only fit into some that I have purchased as recently as 1 year ago. Everything is all good now. I feel comfortable in a own skin again and it is nice not being quite so skinny.
Exactly, this is pretty much what I'm talking about. Though I did enjoy the "becoming a man" quip by your GF in that story (nice to have an understanding GF eh mate?). As far as I've known every man has to pass this barrier, some more gracefully than others though everyone is different. Interestingly this is RARELY discussed between males, no idea why really. A significant change happens to us all at that age regardless of weight. How we deal with it is what should bring us together really - because we're men! ;-) lol
Are you on any medication for the back problems? A lot of medications can have a side-effect of weight gain. I gained a lot of weight after I starting taking some new psychiatric medications. I've since lost most of it (after I changed my medication and started dieting), but it took a long time.
I had to go to camp every year with my school for 'fun'. I did not want to go at all. But I was literally, forced. I hated every part of it. I mean come on, what fuck head goes camping in the middle of summer in Australia? I knew the side effects would be that since I pushed my body to physical limits by walking up masses amounts of hill with a 30 KG backpack, I would burn a lot of energy and put a lot of strain on myself. After finishing school, since I did not do camp anymore, I gained A HELL of a lot of weight. Insanely quick. This was because my body was used to an active environment. However, I was not active a lot before going to these shitty camps, and I did not have this issue. In this case, I reckon that is what has happened to you ASSEMbler. One thing I hate, is people telling me what to do, and literally pushing and forcing you. Now I have to do a fair amount of sit-ups, push-ups etc everyday to keep my body burning the calories it expects. I mean, everyone has and must excersize, but I never had to do this much... I hate school and camping...
Sounds like the same reason I got fatter. Before I had my operation last year I was at the gym 6 days a aweek. Now I'm more sedantory, muscle atrophy is a bitch and I'm fatter than ever.
Quoting red dwarf : When you're younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like, and still climb into your 26" waist trousers and zip them closed. Then you reach that age, 24-25, your muscles give up, they wave a little white flag, and without any warning at all you're suddenly a fat bastard. Although even with a bad back it is still possible to exercise, http://www.openerg.com/backpain/exercise.htm for example. See your GP though as sudden weight gain can be for other reasons as said, although it could be with age. I wore 28" jeans up until 26 then it went to 30" and now I am stuck on 32 and sometimes I can get it down to 30"
If I turn to the side I'm not visible. I guess I've got a 2 more years until I start putting on some weight.
28 jeans here until 26. Now in 32. I am actually about right for my height now, but its easy to put weight on now. Before I couldnt put anything on even if I wanted to.
I thought it would happen (gaining weight with age), but it never did, not even 1kg. My weight stopped going up when I stopped growing in height (14). But being slim isn't a bad thing anyway? As long as it doesn't interfere with your health. Just need some extra holes in my belt, that's all.
I'm don't have any of the symptoms of throid issues. I will chalk it up to getting older. I now have to formulate some drastic action as there's no way I am comfortable with this.
