So I'm off to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks and I will be spending a few days there. Last time I didn't really plan my videogame shopping very well, so it would be great if you guys could share the gaming shopping spots there!!! Many thanks Sabre
What sort of stuff are you after? I've been here for a few weeks and I've been a bit disappointed with what I've been able to find, not been able to find any interesting Famicom clones.
Look at my previous thread somewhere Make an appointment and see Barry @ GamechoiceClub Top man, but take plenty of £/$/y with you

If you're planning to spend a lot of money then buy a ticket to Japan, you may not save any money but you'll have more choice. PC-FX? LOL...Apart from GCC you won't find anything else and be aware that a number of games will be 4 or 5 times what they are in Japan. Looking at the list there are a large number of games I picked up for about $3 each. PC Engine is quite common though, although be careful not to buy pirates (as I did notice quite a few around), Super Famciom was fairly non existant though but MD I did find a few shops and if you haggle you could get them for much less then what they want for them. If you want to buy games then if you want to buy Xbox 360, PSP and Playstation 3 games then you would be saving money and get decent discounts (Sony and Microsoft have offices in Hong Kong). The only things I bought since I've been here have been the Hori Fighting Stick 3 as that worked out about $35 and a Japanese version of Minna No Golf 5 on the PS3 which worked out slightly cheaper then buying it in Japan.
While i was there i barely found any game shops. Ok there was a big building i found full of small stalls but its all latest stuff around there. There was one small shop i found with much older gaming stuff. I cant remember the name of the building but if get a turist board map of hong kong. Find Times Square on it. Then look abit above that and to the right (im doing this from memory if you want a picture i can get you one later if you bother me enough) theres a road called Sugar St. On the left side of that road about half way down theres a building that you can go straight down to the basement from street lvl. In there you will find a shop. I remember him having loads of boxes of old systems and some other items.
Cool, also theres the 118 building on the other side of that area that has loads and loads of shops but mostly its new stuff. Also i remembered another shop that i think had some old stuff in the shelfs. The wanchai computer centre i think it was called next to the station. I seem to think that there was a shop there that had some older stuff.
Went to the place in Sugar street, it's in the basement of the Causeway Bay shopping centre. Had tons of imported Japanese models and figures and then found the shop. It was a bit disappointing, had a number of overpriced new Japanese and Asian Playstation 1 games with severe fading and a couple of sunfaded N64 games and that seemed to be about it games wise. They did have an asian Mega CD, a Panasonic 3DO, a few PC Engine CD-ROM units and a PC Engine print booster though, but I didn't ask for prices. The 118 centre is in fact the 188 centre, (it's on Wan Chai Road, which is parrallel to Henessey Road, just before Heard Street, you can't miss it as it has a large sign coming out to the road that has 188 on it) there is one shop there on the top floor that does have a range of older games, probably the best selection of Saturn, Super Famicom, Famicom, PC Engine and DC games I've seen in Hong Kong, but again most of them are well overpriced compared to Japan and there is very little games that you probably would want to buy. The shop is very tiny too, so two people can get into the shop and look... The Golden Computer Centre in Sham Shui Po does have a few shops with some PC Engine, Saturn, DC, Famicom but as it's quite busy with people wanting to buy new consoles and games it's hard to get the people in the shops to give you a price on what they have, 'Its a waste of my time to bother about that' was what I got when I asked about a clone famicom in a window before he turned his attention to someone who wanted a Wii game.
Yeah i dint check the place out much. The major thing i rememberd is he had a ton of boxes of old stuff in the shop when i was there. There was barely room for me to walk in. Yeah thats the one im talking about. Behind the ccwu building. Pretty easy to find if you know its there but i dint till some old lady told me about it when i was asking a shop owner about some games stuff. ::icon_bigg Jamtex you living in hong kong?
Was like that when I went in too, the guy behind the counter was modding a Nintendo Wii and looked at me like I was some tramp asking for change. It's a great little place, there are a couple of shops hidden behind, the corridors on each side look like they lead to a fire exit but there was the cute tiny retro shop there. There are a few more places I need to check out too. For a few more months yes. Not as cool as I thought it would be as I've not found any clone famicoms. :crying:
Go to Sham Shui Po MTR station. You can ask around. There's a building or 2 there selling all those console things.
Not that I've seen no, but if you want an import Nintendo Wii or a Ique Nintendo DS Lite, a Sony PSP, Playstation 3 or an Microsoft Xbox 360 then you're laughing. Not seen a single Ique Player though. You can pick up memory cards and flash units easily too, although a lot of people do buy the real games.
When i was there i saw a pretty cheap Wii. Was a jap import but was only something like £120 brand new. So if you look hard you might find a bargain. The wii i saw was in a shop in times square so pretty safe to buy there i think.
I am a regular visitor to HK. 4hrs flight from my country. Go there to enjoy the food. I like the handphones/cellphones. I remembered being offered pirated games instead of legit ones whenever i ask for a game title. lol
Hello, Thanks guys for your help, I've got a lot of address to check thanks to you. I'll be in HK in 2 days, currently in Indonesia, gaming sucks there, but it's a great country for everything else!!! Sabre
Well give me a shout if you're about, I can show you around (as best as I can...) for a beer or three. ;-)
