because that's how long it took to boot Jet Grind Radio and that's When it recognized the disc. It's a july 1999 DC and it was bought for me by a friend at a flea market so I suspect it sits around. I have to put the date in every time I turn it on as well. Does it sound like my 2nd Dreamcast is not longed for this world?
Definitely not that long for JGR. It won't be long till it stops reading or loading discs altogether.
Indeed but there are some tricks on the net to speed up the lazer within the dreamcast which should turn it back to normal as it did for me when I did it
I've had loading times a couple minutes long for soldier of fortune but i agree, sounds like the laser is going up
I had the same problem w/ an old DC (JPN release of the same game). Just bought a new DC. They are cheap.
cheap, depending on your income. I d love to buy a decent working DC but they re no-where near the price of a used PSX or N64.
it also depends on where you live.. in sweden they seems to normally go for ~120-150 USD :-( thought I recently got me a boxed one for 30 USD :dance:just waiting for it to show up here.
Which DCs are the ones that Read CD-Rs and Mil Cds? Any Dreamcast made before Oct 2000 Right? Linky? I do have a dead dreamcast somewhere and it's Drive works fine (November 1999) How easy is it to switch? There are some import games that won't load with the gameshark method either. I don't seem to have any trouble with getting Daytona to load though.
I imagine the drive is easy to switch, I put one together out of a dead and working system. Also, I've never run into a DC that won't do burns, am I just lucky, or do they all do them?
I bought one at a car boot a couple of years back that wasn't reading disks very well (slow load times, occasional non-booting, choppy video) - a can of IPA and a cotton bud cured it!
Should a Dreamcast take 2 minutes to load something? Sure, especially if the game in question just so happens to be Soldier Of Fortune! As for Jet Set Radio, this isn't normal at all...
BTW, replacing a GD Drive is as simple as removing the case, unplugging the PSU from the board, removing some screws and lifting the assembly up.
We were just playing my Dreamcast tonight and JSR took a really long time to load, same with a few other games, because of scratches. Those old games I have got scratched up in a move/from cousins. =(
