What codec are the files encoded with? I can't decode 720p h264 on my N280 @ 1.66Ghz in Mint, just too much for the CPU to do, stutters to the point of being pointless even trying.
I'm talking about online content. Have never actually tried with an HD file. Don't have any to test with.
A lot of the GPUs that come with Atom-level boards have hardware acceleration for decoding various kinds of modern video content. If this isn't implemented properly/at all in Mint (a fork of Ubuntu, right?) then you'd run into problems with HD video as Atom CPUs aren't exactly powerhouses.
re-install, hmm ill just bring it to geek squad see what they say about it now gotta rename my downloaded videos
Geek Squad/Futureshop Tech Dept=Worst decision a person can make. You can get a better answer/solution to your problem by pounding your fist on the keyboard than dealing with these morons. Grumpy, Ryan
Yeah. I've cleaned up after more than my fair share of incompetent "professional" computer repair services. They range from the simply inept (installing multiple antivirus packages that slow the computer down to a crawl, failing to fix something trivial), through taking advantage ("fixing" a very simple issue at a high cost) to the outright fraudulent ("you need more RAM to run the internet"/"you need a new computer"). I think it's kind of pot luck - a lot of the time you'll get an eager nerd who just wants to do his job well, but equally as frequently it seems to be some arsehole trying to take you for a ride. Get a tech-minded friend to look into it and buy them something to say thanks.
