So the NGX is official, a slightly better/less crappier multigame portable, but the first SNK hardware in 13 years Its 10+ years since the Dreamcast, segammy lives from rererereleasing what Sega made even 30 years ago. On the other hand making hardware is cheaper than ever, you got people at kickstarter raising money (peanuts compared to corporations) and getting some guy from china on the phone to build it Say whatever you want but that was IMPOSSIBLE 10 years ago, you had to send someone over there, get translators, lawyers, etc....all that costs money, lots of money. So Sega could actually make something better than a generic portable with games hardwired on it, it could be something like those android consoles popping up in HK, or even that gaming tablet from Razer. But the games? is not like Sega is back at doing awesome AAA games that make a console a must-buy, and getting their shit together, bring people back and do awesome games again would be waaaaay more money than getting some OEM to make a new Sega console. It would be awesome if Sega made a comeback, but can it?
No. I doubt that many people would want to buy a console to buy ported Sega games, and most of the good Sega games in the past few years (Bayonetta, Vanquish, etc.) were made by 3rd parties who'd probably rather release them on 360 or PS3 than on a new Sega console with no user base. And the first SNK hardware in decades? That's a little exaggerated since it's only been about 20 years since the release of the Neo Geo, and they've made other systems in between :friendly_wink:
Would be nice, but not likely. There are a lot of us here that would love SEGA to make a new console or a new dreamcast for that matter, but would others buy it? Most SEGA fans would sure, but the general casual gamers would most likely ignore it.
If Sega made a new handheld I wouldn't buy it and I'm a big Sega fan. Handhelds are bollocks IMO when it comes to serious gaming. Great for a quick blast but not for anything you need to get in to. Big screen, good sound system and a relaxing sofa is what gaming is about in my book. That goes for even the classics as well. Yakumo PS: that new Neo Geo system is just a rom machine anyway. Nothing exciting there. Loads of systems can play Neo Geo roms just fine.
A full console would be way harder and expensive to make, while with the tablet industry they could wipe a portable running a forked version of android and it would be closer to the vita than to the NGX Let alone games would be also cheaper to make, you dont need much cash to make games on WVGA res for a system with 5 hours tops of battery TBH 2 or 3 months ago I thought Sega was just too broken to get anything done, but now that you see former star devs like double fine and the guy from interplay (fallout) getting millions on donations to make a game, and with all the ex-Sega devs that are having trouble doing stuff on their own maybe it wouldnt be that impossible for Sega to rebuild itself
Note : There is no reason unless you are a moronic 12 year old to use F*** yeah in an poll. Any new handheld is going to be a generic ARM based console that will probably play ROMs unless Sonic Team are going to make a new Sonic 5 or Bare Knuckle 4 and Treasure do a Gunstar Heroes 2...
Sega already did. They are called the GenMobile, Gopher, etc. AtGames actually made them, but they have the official Sega license for these portables. The Neo-Geo X is not even being made by SNK. I heard SNK designed it (although I truly question this since it looks like Korean MP4 player to me). This stuff is a niche market. No one is going to buy a Sega portable in-mass anymore, especially if it just plays old Genesis games and ROMs. For Sega to bother putting their own R&D into a portable like this would require it to sell quite a bit. None of these portables sell well enough for a company like Sega to justify doing this, they can barely sell the games they produce now that don't have Sonic in the title.
If there were a handheld that could fully emulate Dreamcast (or Saturn) from SD, I would come rainbows. Then I would actually buy the thing. Then come rainbows again. And Unicorns. And love.
You ever even played GSH? It has the same stages (with some exceptions), same enemies, same bosses, same plot...
Yes I've played both they're completely different yet the same. I guess I know what I have to do..... (tune in to the next Retrocade to find out!)
i think it would be better is sagammy did like bandi did with the jaguar declare ALL sega consoles open hardware but ontop of that release the source code for the saturn and dreamcast and detailed blueprints to the katana dev kits and saturn dev kits and sega 32x and sega cd dev kits and mega drive dev kits and master system dev kits hell they could sell licenses to produce them in full forum and make an ass load of money off it
lol what. that's like saying Super Mario 2: Lost Levels is the same as Super Mario Bros. They're similar yeah but the levels are different, so are the weapons. It's not a remake - it's a sequel.
