I think this is a very important deal and, if approved, this ideal could be brought to other countries to very negative effects. A very similar ideal has been almost passed in Venezuela. This is i believe the only way to stop this. Tell me something, do you want to pay monthly JUST to access the internet? I bet most of you don't want to...

I saw this spreading all over Twitter today. I didn't understand what it was until I watched a video about it. Like I don't want to pay a premium just to go on sites like Facebook, Tumblr, or any site in general.

If you get your internet service from someone like Comcast that sells cable TV service and also use something like Netflix you should certainly be worried about it.

I don't understand that part. I pay monthly bills to access the internet... Am I doing it wrong?

Net neutrality is very important IMO. But I feel like *net rigging*, the opposite of net neutrality, would be hard to enforce. End-to-end encryption and it should be circumvent-able, no?

I really hope this idea never reaches Canada, although we have a lot of small ISP that'd probably not enforce it (they get to buy bandwidth from big ISPs at a rebate rate and resell it, the big guys have to sell it to them under an anti-monopoly law).

Every year the headline is save net neutrality and every year we sign a petition. Next year they will be back up to bat with the same schtick.

They'd have to pass a law enforcing net neutrality to stop this cat and mouse game.

I stopped caring when I realized this happens every 2-3 years people get upset and then. Nothing happens.

I think it's more important to pressure the FTC about beaking up Comcast like The Bell companies in the Early 80s. We also need to ensure Cable Provider options as it's usually 1 provider or GTFO. Create competition and everyone wins.

This is the completely wrong way to think about this, don't be so naive. It goes away every year because people fight for it every year.

This is why they keep trying, you are exactly the issue and why they will win.

That an expected response. But I've come to realize, It's just an endless cycle. Until some young blood gets in that understand technology and it's potential the cycle will continue.

Saying that we (or you) shouldn't do anything about it because nothing ever happens is ridiculous. Part of the reason it hasn't happened is because people made it clear that they cared about it. Being apathetic is great for you, but I wonder if you'll care about it once the internet becomes far shittier than it is now. Do you use the internet? Do you like being able to view any site you want? If so, then you should care about this - because it will directly affect you and many other people. Killing net neutrality doesn't benefit the general population at all; it just gives ISPs more power to screw people over and take more of their money in the process. Unless you're a CEO of one of those companies, you're not going to benefit from it at all.

Also, it's entirely possible that they may actually kill net neutrality. There's no reason to assume it won't happen.

Telstra in Australia was already found to be throttling Netflix a year or so ago and to my knowledge they still do

Oh no! You mean getting angry about it and voicing our opinion didn't work?
It's always worked so well in the past!

It's almost like we don't matter and there's no point in caring.

For me the FCC would have gone extinct and it would be like Romania, it's a poor EU country that have the fastest internet on the union because there is zero regulation and most providers are actually NISP (Neighboor ISP) which means that even the average Joe with knowledge could build an infrastructure without the goverment meddling a hundreds of millions of dollars in regulations.

Also it's funny how big companies like Facebook, Google and etc are for NN, but don't want to create their own ISP since they have money to get through the regulations easily or even buy the existing companies, yet they can censor anyone they disagree with (like the dude who was fired from google for being against their SJW politics).
