Shovel knight is on PSN now, and XBL next week

looks like Everyone can finally play Shovel Knight It just came out on PSN and it'll be on XBOX Live Next week. So who got the more compelling extras? Kratos on Playstation, the Freakin Battletoads on XBOX.

I'm the Playstation guy but I gotta say XBOX owners win here.

So far I'm loving the game that Nintendo and PC people have been enjoying for well over a year.

 

Why do they have to shove(l) Kratos, the no-personality main character of the stupidest and most infantile franchise on Earth, into everything?

Anyway, while the Battletoads are slightly less stupid, cross-play means I'll probably get the PS version.

Edit: OK, the stupidest and most infantile gaming franchise on Earth, because for some reason they're still making Fast & the Furious movies.

 

I'm very suprised that they didn't release Shovel Knight for Xbox and Playstation first. I mean we all know Nintendo's PR and bussiness decisions, so it's weird that it was released on Nintendo platforms first.

 

I think you answered your own Question. Kratos having no personality means he can be molded into whatever they want him to be. Need somebody for Mortal Kombat? ANGRY Kratos, Need a bonus character for Shovel Knight? Kratos. Need a sex crazed lunatic for a Dating Sim? I hope Kratos Sempai will notice me.

I'm not sure it was ever meant to be multiplatform to begin with but the gamers have spoken and they got enhanced versions.

 

Yeah, but Everybody's Golf having Kratos? If they wanted a Sony character for Shovel Knight, they should've used Cole or Delsin from inFamous, because at least they're known for jumping and gliding. Although apparently both the Battletoads and Kratos are just extra boss fights, which is kind of lame.

 

If they wanted Kratos to be an every day saleryman they just slap a suit on him and there we go (I think he even had such a costume in God of War 2)

Jax, Daxter, Ratchet, Clank, that thing from Jumping flash, Pa Rappa, Yeah there are other choices. But that does suck that the Battletoads are just extra boss fights, I thought they'd at least be playable.

 

Or why not Nathan Drake, the resident action-platformer for Sony? At least he's relatively likeable.

 

White Knight Chronicles? Then again that isn't even on the level of God Of War or Uncharted.

Let's all be honest with ourselves, Sony is crap when it comes to first party franchises. They gave away Crash and Sypro (and I'm not sure which franchise has it worse now), Jak and Daxter haven't gotten a new game since the PS2, and their big PS4 debut mascot flopped hard.

 

What I like about Sony is they aren't afraid to take risks on new IPs. Some will sink (Knack) others will do really well (Last of Us)

Speaking of Crash through I hear rumors from time to time they're trying to buy Crash back from Universal for a big PS4 redebut.

Crash and Spyro were made by third-party studios, so they were never really Sony first-party games. And Spyro has been doing really well ever since Skylanders debuted, and considering how desperately Lego, Disney and Nintendo are trying to rip off the gimmick, its popularity doesn't seem to be fading.

 

I have gamer's thumb for the first time in 20 years.

Shovel knight you have done your job.

I got to the Kratos fight in Shovel Knight. He is EASY one of the easiest bosses in the game dispite it being a 3 phase fight. Beating him gets you an extra set of Armor that makes Shovel Knight play like a 2d God of War.

I guess beating the Battletoads nets you a similar armor.

 

If it was based just on the extra characters, I'd have gone with the Xbox version. The fact that the PS one dropped a week early, has cross play, and was on sale for PS+ made me go with the PS version. I'm also incredibly tired of my Xbox One's hard drive being full for no reason, and constantly crashing. I tried to play Volgarr and it told me the disc was dirty...for a digital game.

 

The Kratos Armor alone makes it worth it.

and YESSH the One can't catch a break sucks you can't swap out the hard drive without voiding your warranty either.

I need to give Shovel Knight a shot. A friend got it for the Wii U and it looked challenging. The art style is pretty slick as well.

 

Ok then, Sony just couldn't come up with a decent franchise. I mean, the characters most associated with the PS1 were Lara Croft (whose first game was originally a Saturn exclusive), Crash and Sypro were made by someone else, FFVII was Square...

 

That is true. Sony as a developer has no mascot character. Probably their best would be the motor toon GP gang.
