**** me, I got to get this!

    https://www.sifteo.com/

Sadly they aren't letting those outside the USA preorder them. =( I emailed asking for an exception as I really want to tinker with them and make a few little games.

That looks awesome! I might have to consider that! I wonder why they won't let pre-orders outside the use.

The one game called Chroma I think looked absolutely awesome.

Probalby only got FCC approval for USA. The device is from a small start up company and the tech came from a side project at MIT.

    -edit-
I asked if they would make an exception but I got shot down. =(

Going to need a proxy to get me one.

    --edit 2--
I don't think it's worth a topic bump but ARGGG I can't get my mind off these things right now.

I might have to mock up some games at home in preparation (since it might be 1-3 months before the pre-orders go out).

It looks like they are sold out but I put my name on the list. I'm willing to be your proxy for no charge except for reshipping.

Already sold out of the pre orders! Wonder if they have or it's just spin?

    Looks an interesting device though.

I have to say, I'm probably almost as excited as subbie is about these. It is indeed a rather fantastic concept. I've seen little interactive LCD cube toys for kids like Cube World and Pixel Chix which are quite interesting, but this takes it to a whole new level of awesome.

The maze game with the penguin looks like great fun. The educational stuff looks really good to. I want a set. Now.

I assume Sifteo will provide the SDK, but would you be coding in C or a variant of, or something else?

EDIT: They will indeed be providing the SDK.

Yeah they are going to offer the SDK and also have an app store for the PC/Mac for buying/selling apps for the things.

I need to get my hands on some since I will make a few games. I'd say what i'm thinking but why do I want to give away my idea that might put out. =D

I think for me the biggest things with the devices is their ability to sense what unit they're next to and in what orientation to each other.

Preorder price was $100 for a base unit (3 cubes, charge stand, cables, usb wireless com device). $30 for additional cubes.

Standard retail price will be $150 for the base unit and $40 or $50 for additional cubes.

They seem pretty cool but the skeptic in me doesn't see them being a hit unless they can get the price lower. To me the ideal price feels to be around $80.00 for the base set and $20.00 per extra cube. I wish them well though.

I think $100 is not bad or $150 with 6 cubes but 3 for $150 I will agree is kind of high and a bit of a risk for a new company.

I do think these things will do well but in limited quantities.

Personally I want to try getting a few small games on the device early while there is interest in the device and to keep the idea alive in people's heads.

I feel that what they have showed off so far, 1/2 games/apps are cool but in a 5 min sense or maybe with guest but mostly something you'll probably shelve and forget. =/ The sequencer sample from a few years back is definantly something I could see people keeping around on their desk to bust out to play around with from time to time.

This thing needs a really cool brain teaser puzzle game on the level of the horse shoe & chain brain teaser (and not a tetris style puzzle game). That way it's something you can pick up for a few mins to take a crack at, give up, set down on your desk where you can see it and later in the day take another crack at it. Something that will just piss you off till you finally figure it out.

I think $100 is an excellent price, and they look like a lot of fun. But would they charge £100 for us poor gamers in the UK...?

That boggle flash thing looks extremely sweet. I teach English, and my students would have lots of fun building vocabulary with this.

There's serious educational potential for the Sifteo cubes, too.

I watched the video & i want lol. However it's not clear but do the cubes save the game so you can take them anywhere?

If it means your tethered to a pc then not so good.
