I have a Dev system in front of me. Might have to check. I dont understand your points on video out tho. From what I know there is no output at resolution that is not 480x272. There are some PSP games that do run at a higher resolution primary as a cheap AA (Gripshift renders at 480x512 then scales that image to display at 480x272). I think this might more be an issue of the game still heavly being developed on a PC and not adjusted properly for the PSP yet (quite common thing to do).
Dunno if you've checked it out, but the PSP Slim's 480p only output allows for stretched/full screen displaying of videos and pictures, but for games, it only allows for a native res (with black borders) within a 640x480 frame. Now, this game's "possibly" odd graphics might mean that it is possible that newer games can include a "full screen" display mode on the Slim (Something we'd soon get to know anyway... be it through a modded slim in the near future or some gentle soul who could give it a test boot on an updated TEST kit w/VGA) They're "just" .AT3 files, there is currently no PC player that supports the PSP's AC3+ format, but there is a tool to play them back on the PSP. (AT3 Player) You can combine that either with some homebrew recorder software or an audio cable for your PSP to record it over to some other format/device. Didn't know other PSP games did a similiar thing. But if you've kept an eye on this game, it was clearly being first worked on in a PS2 enviroment, and the odd resolution just makes me wonder if the PSP Slim's TV OUT allows for a full screen display instead of the black bar display games will get (games have that on the TEST kit too) Also, the widescreen aspect ratio in the demo is a bit "odd" (especially when compared up to stuff like IGN's 4:3 formated videos of the game in action)
Also, it might be a stupid question, but what folder do I stick the .CSO in? Edit: Now I feel stupid. You need a custom firmware to play this, right?
Thanks Carnivol, on it now. On topic: Holy shit, this is good, back to the original Silent Hill good, none of this FPS rubbish like in "The Room"
There actualy is a ac3+ decoder floating on the net. I listen to gurumin sound track from time to time on my pc (don't remember where I found it tho). Unless konami knows a lot of secretive things sony has not filled others in. I dont think you can do comercial games at a resolution other then 480x272 for Slim's TV Out (yes I am a licensed psp dever). Also sony is not issueing the 3.6 firmware sdk to developers which is what the slim comes with. So atm I am to assume this is still just all from unpolished code and not because of some secret they plan for the PSP slim.
I thought The Room was pretty awesome, just with the exception that it was terribly linear and had basicly no room for "additional stuff" (not even a UFO ending). But I guess it's origin as not a "real" Silent Hill title is what makes it differ in that way. Anyway, surprisngly, the Origin demo was damn good. Well, I guess it wouldn't seem too unlikely that developers of specific "big" exclusive titles would've possibly been let in on some nasty little secrets. But seriously, it would be great if someone could check these things out properly, before some idiot picks up what's now just speculation and theories of possibilities, and turns it into a stupid web rumor and so on
yet the more you think about it, the more it falls apart. For this to run on our PSPs now means its using sdk 3.52 or less. Slim stuff wont be present in the SDK till 3.7 (there wont be a 3.6 sdk). If this was using slim specific things (which again is disallowed by sony) it would need a firmware 3.6 or greater to do. If the game is 3.6 firmware then the game would not be working on our custom firmware psp units now would it.
Ok, after nearly 2 hours of trying to figure out what to do (Including a quick trip to Circuit City to pick up the 1.5 downgra...er Lumines), I finally managed to get the damn thing downgraded (Thank god I still had a 3.30 PSP and didn't upgrade to 3.52). At least I don't feel too much like a idiot Ok, explanation time: The demo itself is from around the same time as E3 2007. Why? The hospital was shown in the same shape in demo form back then (Which is where this takes place). Source being http://silenthillorigins.com/, look at the 2nd page where it talks about a hospital gameplay video. Only reason I realized that is I was looking for Origins info earlier on about a month or so and watched the demo. Now, onto the demo itself. I only got to play around with it for a few minutes (Going to play it again in a little bit). Few things: -Graphics are on and pretty much above Silent Hill 2 levels. Seriously, this is the best game I have seen on the PSP yet. -Much of the game is similar to the gameplay of 2, although your weapons do not last now and break. However, you can now pick up a bunch of stuff and use that as blunt objects. -Enemies now have RE4-style commands if you get too close to them and they grab you. The nurses have one where you have to press X repeatedly so you don't get stabbed by a needle. -You can now change your view by pressing the left shoulder button (or right, I don't remember too well). -Framerate is pretty high, well above 30 FPS. May just be due to the game being on the memory card, though... -Some glitches include: Walking right before you start jogging, camera boundary problems (Only happened once, though), framerate slowdown in one area. I'm going to play it again in a few minutes.
Subbie->m_iPirateMode = TRUE; I could not stop my self well enough. Sadly the demo did little in the way of moving it up or off my purchase list since this game was already the 2nd most antisipated psp game (ff7cc is 1st) to get this year. All I got to say on a technical stand point. WOW! Nice looking game that runs at 60fps (sure that might be due to my psp running at 333mhz but still nice, since this game is not due out till october, they can just use firmware 3.50 and run at 333 if there is slowdowns at 222).
Climax (dev.) has issued a statement that the leak didn't come from them, and that it is fingerprinted and traces back to promo code given to Konami. Source: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=27874
Can anyone tell me if it will work on 3.40 OE-A or will I need to upgrade to one of the new custom firmwares?
Thanks for telling me! I'm in the middle of downloading it now. Does anyone know if the image can be made in to a smaller size? I know you can for some games.
If you use UMDgen and relink all the movies and soundtrack, probably, but it may not boot, some games just won't work when you take stuff out.
Well this was three years ago so I reckon you'll have a hard time finding it. Just check all the usual places on torrent you might find it
