I finally had a chance to try the disks yesterday.

The first disk didn't boot. It tried to load it and then stopped.

The second disk booted properly. But it wasn't Mother 3. It was Sim City 64.

    The third disk didn't boot.

The fourth disk booted properly. But it wasn't Mother 3. It was Mario Artist.

It was exciting and dissappointing at the same time. They aren't blank. Which was nice. But I was really hoping for Mother 3. The way the disks are labelled makes no sense. But I noticed that they once had paper labels on the back. That probably had the game name on them.

    All four disks contain content.

They were last modified in 1999.

I'm not sure why two of them don't load. I am going to look into it. Maybe I can read the code without them loading.

Thats all the time I have right now. But I will try to check back in to answer questions.

    Later everybody!

Well you didn't pay too much for them right? Any differences between these versions or the final?

So any differences in the games? :)
And any chance of at least figuring out what's on the two other discs?

Yeah, I'd like to know if there are any differences :p Also, does the possibility of releasing dumps of these games exist? :>

Good to see that this story has seen a happy ending, although not an expected one. Which Mario Artist title is it? an unreleased or released one?

I didn't have much time at all to play the two games. And I forgot to borrow a camera to take pictures. Hopefully I'll have more time this weekend.

I think Mario Artist is the one that is released. I drew a bunch of 2d shapes on the screen. But that is all I had time for. I wanted to use my time to boot the two remaining disks.

I don't have a retail 64dd. So I can't compare them directly to the retail releases. For right now I might have to compare them to screenshots of the released games.

I m confident that Kammedo can assist you in comparing the differences between the image you have and the retail games, since he owns a similar setup.

There are other more accurate methods as well, so don't hesitate to contact him.

    Wow,

I read through the highlights of that previous thread, and I've got to say I'm blown away by it, you guys have a really great community spirit here... I feel like a just missed out on a great adventure through n64/64dd history =| but its great to see so much good coming from it, like the ability to dump 64dd disks, and in a way I'm glad I got here while there's still 2 more disks left in this jigsaw... I totaly agree with those who say not to give up, who knows what could be on those other 2 disks, yea it could just be simcity 3000 mario painter, but then it could well still be Eathbound 3/Mother 3, Zelda Ura, or in my dreams, a magical tuned up super version of Perfect Dark (with push button codes :) )... At any rate I'd say its worth investigating further... This all kind of reminds of when they unearthed the citadel in goldeneye and the goldeneye/PD texture mappers at rarewitchproject...

congrats on finally finding out what was on the first two disks, you must be pretty relieved you've managed at least that much, and congrats to the people who contributed too... I'm really impressed with some of the rare and random video game shizzle you guys manage to get hold of... I've been willing to give both my legs and 3 fingers (leaving me with the 7 needed to use an n64 controller) for a beta version of Goldeneye or Peferct Dark, or infact any (pre-xbox) Rareware game... unfortunately it seems limbs aren't worth what they used to be :p

And even if you can't get whats on the disks to run, at least in a thousand years time followers of Nintendoism will hail you as the first in a long line of protectors of Miyamoto's sacred disks of mystery, and they shalt build in thyne honour from theyre superdooper-tera-giga-mega-segahertz computers a machine to unravel this mystery, and they shalt be gratful to thee for giving them a little bit of n64 history to unravel and enjoy for themselves like we have been able to for the last 11 years... so long as you don't accidentally knock the disks off your desk and behind a radiator without noticing for a few years that is ;P

anyway, once again, well done to you and everyone who participated and supported you, you've all done a pretty cool thing and you've got a pretty sweet place to do it... Good karma all round :)

Those were the days...I remember how wonderful all that hype was and all the crazy things you could do with a gameshark...The island in the Dam...All Bonds code...Oddjob/Xena making single player appearances...those were the days.

Now I really dont like being pessimistic, but dont get your hopes high on that. If 64DD devdisks dont boot there are two reasons :
    a) theres nothing on them
    b) the disk is corrupted

The second case may be reversable, but that still depends if its just a special disk (aka with a s/n in a specific range) and if it hasnt been erased with a magnet.
    How about a threesome? :p
